Nov 16, 2010 - Nelsons bay

16th November Nelsons bay, Port Stephens Got up after a lie in and an embaressed breakfast and headed to Newcastle! Home to Australias largest KFC! It's a huge town here surrounded by suburbs with English town names. Apparently it's a huge coal mining area and it's where the very worst criminals were sent! There wasn't a great deal there and the city wasn't anything special until we found sone sea baths. Dug out by the first criminal migrants were two full sized swimming pools dug our into the rockface right on the break of the water. There...

Apr 17, 2009 - Diaries and Journals ....the catch up day

We woke and Sean made scrambled eggs, mushrooms, bacon and toast for breakfast and then we started on our diaries. I got a wash load done and then the girls went to do Sand Art craft. When they returned we were still cajoling Liam into writing his diary and neatly!!! Sean took the younger two to the pool for a swim and I started my catch up of the journal.....very far behind. We then had lunch and the two older ones continued on with their diary writing. We sadly did not get to the beach as they just did not do their diaries in time nor...

Apr 16, 2009 - The walk to the spit and shopping in Salamander

We woke early and after Sean did his computer stuff we walked along the beach to the spit, which sadly was washed out even though the tide was low. We were walking back when I noticed some people learning to surf. The surf teacher swam in and told us the details and as we like it here so much we decided to stay another night and on Saturday Sean, Liam and Rhiannon can do a two hour lesson. Miranda and I then went to the cafe and got her a hot chocolate that I promised her many days ago and buy some other things. We made some sandwiches and...

Apr 15, 2009 - Fingal Bay .....I even go for a swim and it's only 25 C

After a lazy breakfast we went to the front of the cp where they held a lolly scramble....our kids really did not need more lollies!!! We then went to the beach and we all went for a swim and then built sandcastles whilst Liam and Sean first played ball then floating his putt putt boat. The beach is beautiful and it is not even considered hot enough back in Perth to swim but here as there is no wind it is warm and inviting to swim in the beach. After sometime I decided to walk back to the van and go to the corner shops to get some...

Apr 14, 2009 - Leaving Sydney.....

We packed and left the cp at 10am. We still had not received the parcel from Bairnsdale. SMS'd Nicole to say we were leaving. I did not want to talk to her as last night I was very teary and saddened on leaving them. We drove to Fidden's Wharf Road to give a small gift of thanks to Julie and took a photo of where we gave up our hike on the first day in Sydney. We then drove along the freeway to Newcastle intending to have some lunch but it was too busy and we could not find a park for the van. So we drove on to Nelson's Bay, Port Stephens,...

Nov 6, 2007 - Port Stephens

Hi everyone, this is just a quick update of how I'm getting on because I don't have that much time on the internet. Well the past week has been a bit boring to tell you the truth, it's not all parties and beaches when you're a backpacker. My brief stint as a removals man was exhausting. My first day on the job was the worst it could possibly be. We had to move a family from a little bungalow to a two storey house on top of a very steep hill. This might not sound very difficult but I can assure you it was. Most of the boxes were over packed...
