Mar 9, 2011 - Lismore

th March. Today we left Grafton heading for Casino, but decided to continue on to Lismore, we booked into a very average caravan park, but as they only have en suite sites and the cost is only $23, it is O.K. for one night, there are mainly permanents and cabins here, and it is very run down, oddly enough the en suite is clean and it’s nice to be able to spread out a bit. Lismore is a good size town, it has some nice parks and the Richmond River runs through it. We took a drive up town and checked out the Tourist Info Centre, but really...

Nov 18, 2007 - Day 2 Byron Bay

Early morning Blue sky the kind of day you would expect to spend in Byron Bay. I am contemplating staying here forever such a magical place. Went up to the old cape today and looked into the sea - must appreciate the space when you look far into the horizon - so much horizon that it makes you look for the spca inside you. I off for lunch now and see how things develop - Moshe might call me this afternoon and perhaps join me for the trip down to Melbourne - thats good news I am not sure I want to do all this thing solo.

Boaz&Bike Around Oz

Nov 28, 2006 - Gold Coast

Well we are now on the Gold Coast and in particular checking out the Worlds. Having spent Monday jumping from train to train and ferries we explored Brisbane city. A city's a city I'd have to say but Brissy does have some pretty cool features. The central mall was a winner with lots of cool cafes and restaurants, as was the South Bank development with it's man made lagoon and boardwalk. We picked up Harvey at the end of the day from his 10,000 km service and prepared for an early start to make our way down here. As it turned out the drive...

Sep 10, 2006 - Driving Up the Coast on the Pacific Highway

Sunday - We rented a Holden Commodore station wagon to drive up the coast of New South Wales. We left at about 10 am it was still really rainy and windy. We took the Pacific Highway north towards Byron Bay, which is just south of Brisbane. We stopped in Newcastle to go to the grocery store and to take a break from driving in the rain. Unfortunately, the weather didn't get any better. We took our time and finally got to Byron Bay at 9:30 pm. The next day (Monday) we crusied around town. It is really cute with lots of surf shops and cafes and...

Apr 9, 2006 - Day 82 Update - Byron Bay

We woke about 9am and the car park was full with keen surfers. We stumbled out of the car and went straight into the sea in an effort to wake ourselves up. We left Kempsey and headed towards Port Macquarie, a town we were recommended by a local tourist agent. We arrived and walked about for a bit but there was nothing much going on here so we scoffed down another full english and decided that we would drive to Byron Bay, an area we had been told was a travellers mecca and it is 'the place to be' our morale was so low at the point we decided...

Jan 23, 2006 - Byron Bay

OK, I'm not biased or anything - I'm just like anyone else entitled to vote. But you know, we went through all that work to get ourselves some ballots and get ourselves counted and things still got messed up! What happened?!? Wow, Stephen Harper - Prime Minister? Sort of fits in a strange sort of way IF we add the word "evangelical" in the middle. That's what we'll do. Well call him the PEM. That will work later on too when he becomes the "Ex" PM. The Prime Ex Minister. No 1 former leader. Job done! I guess the good news is that it's a...

Jul 27, 2005 - Byron Bay

There's alot of hype about this place. Some have said they couldn't see what all the fuss is about. We love the place. Stayed far longer than planned. The first day was spent walking around the famous headland (byron cape) Australia's most easterly point. Spent a good twenty minutes by the lighthouse looking out to sea for humpback whales migrating past and weren't disappointed, clocked up about 10. On the second day Chris went for some scuba action on the famous dive site Julian Rocks. Saw around 4 endangered nurse sharks. Joanne had a...

Mar 26, 2005 - Murwillumbah (24/03/05 - 26/03/05)

A small town, around hte coast and inland from Byron Bay. I wished to come here only because of Mount Warning. This hill can be seen from Byron and is part of the range that the Sun sets behind. A small town of no little charm and period authenticity - there were periods of recent history where the town was too poor to replace 50's buildings with new ones and so have remained intact; welcome to Smallville NSW. Hostel right on the bank of the River Tweed and was some Sea Captain's place back in hte day. Charming building but in need of some...

Simon -off to Oz!

Dec 12, 2004 - Australia

G'day, writing from Byron Bay NSW Australia, after arriving in Sydney on the 28 NOv. Spent a few days in Coogee beach with my friends Miriam and Nick whom I met in Fiji. Very gracious hosts I had a good time with them and it was sure nice to stay in a real house vs. a hostel! Went walking around Sydney, Manly, across the harbour bridge and to the opera house, the bot. gardens and down the coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee. I was my second visit to Sydney and it remains one of the best cities Ive ever visited. It was blazing hot, around 100...

Nov 2, 2004 - Relaxing with the dolphins in Byron Bay

We arrived in Byron Bay on Thursday morning after taking the overnight bus from Sydney. It's a bit like an Australian Newquay with better surf and much better weather! We ended up staying for about 6 days even though the original plan was to spend 2 or 3 days there. It was just such a relaxed place it was far too easy to spend each day relaxing on the beach or in the surf. However it wasn't all beach time while we were there and we did actually manage to do quite a few different things...well 2 or 3 I suppose. On the second day there I...
