Jan 9, 2018 - On the road to Inverell

Early start after a thunderstorm that put plenty of water around Lithgow. We headed on past the coal mines and power stations towards Mudgee where we stopped for morning tea. Headed then up some back roads through farming and cattle country to Coolah. Then on through Tambar Springs to have lunch at the little park at Mullaley. Temperature was up around 38 as we headed through Gunedah and then up the Fossicker's Way through the country towns of Manilla, Barraba, Bingara and then into Inverell. Fueled up ready for an early start tomorrow...

Nov 30, 2014 - Copeton Dam

Hello all, Well this is our last day at Copeton Dam. Yesterday and today there was a fishing competition and also lots of water skiers here. Don't know what they see in it, surely it's boring after about five minutes (both the fishing and the skiing)? So there has been lots of activity here. We sit for hours just watching the bird life, and the helicopters water bombing the bushfire about 5klms from us (it is now under control, if not ended). Yesterday we took a drive to a little town called Tingah, about 20klms from here. there is a very...

Nov 26, 2014 - Glen Innes and Copeton Dam

Hello everyone On the way from Lismore I stopped in Glen Innes to visit the Australian Standing Stones. They are truly marvellouus but I have to say that I did not stay long because the flies could teach the flies at Cecil Plains and the national park a thing or two about picking you up and carrying you away. Absolutely unbelievably bad. Couldn't stay, couldn't stand it. But I have included a photo and a video of them. So from there I came to Copeton Dam which is about 35klms from Inverell. Inverell is a very pretty town and I enjoyed the...

Sep 22, 2014 - Copeton Dam

Monday 22 September Another quiet day for us. Had a big walk around the dam area. Quite a few kangaroos around, including black ones and whiteish ones. They didn't hang around much when the kids were galloping around. All in all, we enjoyed the relaxing days. Plenty of reading and craft work too. Plenty of vehicle traffic during the day and evening, as the campers who were down nearer the water came and went from the amenities block. The Ranger was Mark, and he kept a close eye on the comings and goings. Not too much escaped him, which was...

Sep 21, 2014 - Copeton Dam

Sunday 21 September Started off a very quiet day. Had a drive around the tracks at the dam. Plenty of day visitors having picnics, and some brave people swimming in the dam. Quite a few fishermen come in for the day, but from all accounts, there is not too much being caught. Our mate next to us caught some cat fish and bass at his special "spot" and came back to get some other fishermen who were camping near us to take them to get some too! Think they threw most back, just had fun catching them. The day got livelier in the afternoon when...

Sep 20, 2014 - Copeton Dam

Saturday 20 September Drove into Inverell in the morning and spent time looking around the town shops etc. A good shopping centre and different shops to look round. Back to the Dam for lunch, and then a quiet afternoon. Not many in the camping area even though it is school holidays. Our next door neighbour had a chat and offered us some cherry tomatoes. He works at a tomato farm at Guyra, and takes tomatoes with him to give away. These tomatoes are grown in glasshouses. He gave us a leaflet describing the growing process etc, very...

Sep 19, 2014 - Armidale to Copeton Dam

Friday 19 September Had our coldest night of trip so far in Armidale. Temp dropped to -3d. during night, and was still -1d at 7.30am. By the time we left, it was very nice in the sun!! Headed north with our first stop at Guyra. Not too much in the town and pulled up at a nice park to have a break and coffee. One step outside, and we headed straight across the road to the info centre and had a coffee near the fire! Continued on through Tingha & Gilgai to Inverell. Had another break in Inverell, visited the info centre and had a short walk...

Jul 25, 2008 - First Night Inverell

Well we finally made it out the driveway. Both boys are sick so we are taking it very slow. We left at midday and ended up the road in Inverell. We thought best to stay at a caravan park in a nice warm cabin. Thinking if all goes well we should get to Moree. Only another short day as we will leg it to Lightning ridge next. I took jack for a walk to check out the ducks and noticed the sun setting. I did not quite made it. Hopefully the night goes well with plenty of sleep!

Nov 20, 2006 - Inverell Races

I was given the second weekend on the farm off and Wendy suggested I go to the Inverell races, Inverell is a small town, but larger than Warialda, about 1 hours drive away. Her friend, Desie lives there and was kind enough to offer me a lift on the Friday night. We first had a meal in the pub though, which Desie's friend bought for us, which was nice. Desie is really nice and her husband is actually originally from Yorkshire, but has pretty much lost his accent. Anyway, on the Saturday morning before the races Desie invited me to come...

Dec 7, 2005 - Glenn Innes - Surfers Paradise

Leaving Glenn Innes after 1 night pushed onto Surfers Paradise Broadbeach Park via Tenterville and through the mountains stopping for a cuppa in a very quiet little town that only had 1 cafe/craft shop/sewing/tourist information and the local tea drinkers were sat on the bench outside the shop passing the day with chat of who was going to look after the dogs tommorrow ? The waitress was attempting to get back to Sydney for Xmas but all the transport was either expensive or fully booked so looked as though she was going to spend it with the...
