Apr 15, 2007 - Sydney - Day 3

Today we went to the Thailand Grand Festival 2007 in Darling Harbor Park and it was very nice, not quite as grand as we expected. We thought it might be on the same scale as the Chinese Lantern Festival we had seen in Auckland but it was much smaller with minimal authentic food vendors. Still, it was a good time; the best performers being not on-stage but instead seated right next to us. There was a very old, very tipsy asian couple that kept getting up and dancing a jig throughout the various musical acts- they were an absolute hoot. Just...

Apr 11, 2007 - Back Home!!!

Hey there gang, I finally made it back home after the most incredible 9 months of my life. But it's great to be back. Yes I missed you guys back in OZ and i'll see most of you fairly soon. First things first, I need to find a job to pay off the bank before they send out the debt collectors after me. Any which way I look forward to catching up with everyone and continuing a new adventure back home. Time to get back to reality and start working again but after 9 months away, a little bit of routine isn't a bad thing at all. Ciao Michael.

Mikey's World Trip

Feb 21, 2007 - Welcome to the Land of Oz

Well I still haven't mastered the art of sleeping on an airplane, and it sure seems the space between rows of seats is getting smaller with each flight. Our plane trip was about 8 hours long, we crossed three more time zones, and of course lost a day as we crossed the Int'l date line. So my Tuesday was about 4 hours long! Sydney's great! We had a quick tour in the bus that picked us up at the airport, enough to get a feel for the general geography. Then we checked into an old but very nice hotel (The Grace) right in the heart of the city....

Started the "oz intro" thing today and omg talk about being bombarded with people, there was about 15/16 new people to meet this morning! We moved into the special oz intro rooms too lol which are lovely and have a view over the beach. Saw a man "playing with fire" on the beach last night too, he was putting on a little show...

Jan 3, 2007 - Sydney Sky Dive & Harbour Bridge Climb! Adrenalin Junkies R Us!!

Sky Dive Day (3rd Jan) soon came around.... Quick journey into town to the Sydney Skydivers office, where we had numerous paperwork to fill in in case anything went wrong (which we were assured nothing would!!). The bus was a late which didn't help the nerves of some of us, so the cricket helped the time pass...a little anyway. The pictues on the wall of the views did look really cool but some people looked very scared int their photo's so we were relieved when the bus turnt up and we headed off. The skydive site was sitiuated in Picton,...

Jan 1, 2007 - Sydney (Xmas & New Year)

The place was nice, a one bed first floor apartment with swimming pool right outside and views of the Opera house and Sydney harbour bridge. Not the best view but a view non the less. The Landlord delivered a double mattress for when Kenny arrived from Brisbane and could stay in the front room. Looking back I don't believe less than 5 people ever stayed at the place after the 18th of Dec it was a party gaff and had all sorts passing through, all good people but I was so glad I had the private room as poor Kenny never got to bed. The only...

Jan 1, 2007 - Christmas on the beach!!

Well I think it is a good idea that I add something to my blog now we are in Australia! Those of you tracking our progress will know we arrived here on the 23rd of November. It was all a bit strange to be honest, a bit of a shock to the system to be back to civilisation after all the places we had been. I was more homesick here than anywhere we have been so far maybe because it is so like home? So we spent Christmas day at the beach, it was really lovley, a bit strange and a few tears were shed (it is strange being away from home at...

Dec 29, 2006 - Leaving Perth for Sydney

Finally the day had come to leave Perth and all of the friends we had made in and around the area. On our final night we went for a meal at the restaurant that ruthy used to work at (Barroco's), which was gorgeous, and then they wouldn't let us pay saying that it was a late crimbo present! Really great people! Then we met Fab, Dave, Rich, Gary and Lozza and hit Northbridge, going to a few bars and ending up in the Deen nightclub. A really good night, but a sad end saying goodbye to everyone and trading e.mails. We had to be up early to get...

Nov 13, 2006 - My Flying Rants

We've left Hong Kong, taking an overnight flight to Sydney and then an internal flight to get to Adelaide. We've not been exploring yet, so it's my opportunity for a rant about flights (4 down, 8 to go!). Firstly, why is the menu choice on the plane ALWAYS a beef dish or a chicken dish? Secondly, why on overnight flights do I always sit behind the person who constantly adjusts their seat up and down? Finally, why do I always get sat beside the thoroughfare to the toilet? Apart from that, all is well. More when we've explored Adelaide.
