Feb 10, 2011 - Cowra/Young Cont..

7th February. First I went to the Doctors, after lunch we went drove to the little town of Woodstock, there isn’t much there but we had a drink at the old Woodstock Hotel, before returning to Cowra and visiting the Japanese cemetery, at the moment it looks a bit untidy, there is a weed that resembles tumble weed that is everywhere, the gardens need a bit of TLC. 8th February. Today we decided to drive to Young, 60klms from Cowra, Young is noted for it’s cherries and farming, it is a large town, with some nice old buildings. We had lunch at...

Feb 5, 2011 - Cowra

6th February. Couldn’t wait to leave Orange, we headed towards Cowra, more very hilly scenic country, lots of vineyards, orchards and sheep properties, the vineyards aren’t the flashy types like Brown Brothers and Kaiser. We arrived at the Cowra Caravan Park and are pleased that it is a very nice park with very good amenities at present we have booked in for two nights. After lunch we went to the sight of the Cowra Break Out (when some 900 P.O.W tried to break out of prison on the 5th August, 1944) there is a couple of small memorials. Then...

Feb 18, 2006 - Roadtrip - Sydney - Blue Mountains & Jenolan Caves

We collected our Mega-saur-ass wicked Camper van from the Sydney Depot in sunny weather much to our delight:) On one side of the van we have dinosaurs bonking each other and on the other they are smoking fags, the back caption being the real reason dinosaurs are extinct 'Too Many Fags!!'. We made it up to the Blue Mountains capital Katoomba for an afternoon beer and camped in the heart of the mountains during a fabulous thunderstorm which lite up the whole park from the look out to which we'd walked. Sunday was spent exploring blackheath,...

Aug 3, 2005 - Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains are a quick getaway for Sydneysiders who want a taste of the true Australian countryside. We hired a car to get there and, making the most of it, we stopped at a wildlife park on the way. It was full of indigenous Australian animals and we were able to stroke kangaroos and koalas and get close to many of the animals which have eluded us on our travels down the coast, such as the Cassowary, which can disembowel you with its toenail! When we got to Katoomba, our base in the mountains, we quickly located the YHA where we...

Oct 1, 2004 - Cowra

In line with the floral tour so far, stopped in Cowra to see the 'Cherryblossom Festival'. Dates wrong but we were close. Very nice CP out of town, discovered the wonders of 'Pinkys Pizzas' and relaxed. We were impressed with the technology in the Info center/museum and the holographic narrator in a miniature setting of the POW camp break-out during WW2. Visited a large reservoir nearby. Appalled at the level? of water, but rather amused at a NO Swimming sign at least 2 km from the present water level. Indications are that sign was just...
