Sep 6, 2017 - Canberra to Bowral

Wednesday 6 September 2017 After a great week in Canberra, it is time to bid farewell and return to Bowral. Let the early morning rush hour go, and then set off. First stop was at Fyshwick to pick up some more stainless thimbles from Speciality Fastners. Canberra sure is a big place and only realize how big when you drive from one end to the other! Needless to say, it was a cold and windy start again. Watched the outside temp as we travelled and it only varied from 6d to 8d! Our next stop was Goulburn, the oldest inland town in Australia...

Aug 30, 2017 - Bowral

Wednesday 30 August 2017 We thought it was a warmer night, but the thermometer told us it was slightly colder. Maybe we are getting acclimatised. Headed into town with Peter & Pat. Had a quick coffee and they headed off to the library to tidy up some loose ends for their trip to Italy in a couple of weeks time. We did a bit of shopping and then we all met up again about an hour later. Next stop was Mittagong for a few more odds and ends before Peter insisted he treat us to a coffee at the Polish Cafe. Very nice! A stop for fuel and then...

Aug 29, 2017 - Bowral

Tuesday 29 August 2017 Our coldest night yet, and we were greeted with a heavy early morning frost. Turned into a nice day. We are well set up in Peter & Pat's back yard, and have every convenience we need. Pat set off early for her art class and the rest of us left later on with Peter as our guide. Our first stop was Berrima where we enjoyed a lovely walk around town and through a few shops with excellent commentary from Peter. Berrima is a lovely town and a large variety of tourist shops. Mavis found a new coffee mug to replace the one...

Aug 28, 2017 - Bateau Bay to Bowral

Monday 28 August 2017 Pack up day again, have appreciated the extended time at Bateau Bay, but all good things must come to an end and we are sure to find some more nice places in our trek south. Not too far to travel to Bowral, so we had an easy morning and eventually were on the road at 11am. Traffic was good, but we were pleased to leave the streets of Sydney behind and head south on the M7. Stopped for a break at Pheasants Nest just north of Mittagong. Continued on to Bowral arriving at Peter & Pat's around 2pm. It is five years since...

Mar 18, 2015 - Bowral - Alan Schofield

Left Sydney on Tuesday 17th stopping at a truck stop on the way down to Bowral. Called in on Wednesday to see 95 year old Alan Schofield, Mal's dad. He actually drove us in his manual car to and from the Bradman Memorial oval for lunch along with a tour around Bowral. I hope I'm so active and mentally on the ball if I'm so lucky to reach that age. Promised we would stop in on the way back whenever.

Apr 4, 2014 - Huskisson to Kangaroo Valley

Day 41 Friday 4th April (Ron) Huskisson to Girringong - just south of Kiama (Wirri Beach) The morning dawned wet, just as forecast; but we didn't get the quantities predicted. Ulladulla to the south and Woolongong to the north got heavier falls. But although everything was wet this morning it wasn't raining for the packup - good. We headed off with no firm idea where we were going other than that we had always said we would like to stay at Kiama, having had a short day visit many years ago. Well, it's only 45km away so that's a bit of a...

Nov 16, 2012 - Southern Highlands

Bowral – Bradman, watched a couple of sixes hit on the ground the great man played at in his youth. Museum was excellent well worth the $20 entry. Cultured, manicured landscape – some of the big farmers have sold out to the hobby farmers from Sydney Smaller version of the Blue Mtns – cliffs made of the same Hawksbury Sandstone Spacious unpowered site at Moss Vale – van battery lasted about 2.5 days, so time to move on. Hairy descent of mountains in rain

Sep 5, 2011 - Nullarbor Plain - Bowral

So... After 7 months on the road we have decided to head home to the Southern Highlands! We travelled for 5 days straight across from Perth to the Nullarbor and beyond into South Australia. We stopped in Greenock, SA with Pete's Aunty Chris for 4 nights break - the kids definitely needed to run around a bit & we needed a few relaxing days too, as well as a chance to catch up with Aunty Chris over a few champagnes again! We then hit the road again at a more leisurely pace, stopping at Mildura, Hay & then finally Yass. We had a very flash...
