Hi All, Leaving Wollongong we headed south to Batemans Bay an area badly affected by the bush fires, the area is a string of small villages running down the coast amid bush land. Losses here were very high and we witnessed where there were some horror home losses, some very hot fires, some totally destroying road signs, not so hot fires where there was still some canopy and less damage. Friday 25th April Arrived in Bega, the home of Bega Cheese. We could not find out any information of where the Bega Cheese Factory was, so we stopped at a bakery and bought lunch. Then as we were leaving the town, guess what we see "THE CHEESE FACTORY", so we HAVE to go in and have a look, and we also HAVE to by some cheese !!!! We finally found the Information Centre tucked away behind the Bega Cheese Factory. There were about 50 cars parked there and we wondered how they could all fit into the centre. No, they belonged to workers at the factory. However we did find a place to park even though we had the van attached. First thing we noticed was the smell of “rotten” cheese hanging low. We thought we’d be able to do a tour of the cheese factory but they don’t do tours. However there is a heritage centre upstairs at the Info Centre which was quite interesting. Bega...
