Jul 4, 2012 - Armidale

Armidale, another lovely town. We stayed at a "freedom" camp at the Dumaresq Dam (pronounced Doo-merrick - don't ask me, this is NSW), recommended by Bill and Bron - thanks, best camp yet. It was so quiet and peaceful, hard to remember the hustle and bustle of living in a city. It was quite cold there but with our gas heater and my beanie with bling, scarf and gloves, we survived. Barry even got to wear his new beanie, scarf and gloves, not that he'd let me take a photo of him with them on.

Jul 30, 2011 - Tamworth,Armidale and Glen Innes

More terible roads and towns that dont really turn any heads. Glen Innes has a touch of Celtic history and a sprinkling of Scots and Welsh names. Left Tamworth to the largest hill going, thought the Iveco would give up trying to pull the 5 plus tonnes, second gear and 25kph did the trick. Lovely country side and very very hilly. then up the Black Mountain near Glen Coe and passed the highest caravan park in Australia. Very cold mornings and evenings, glorious days.

Oct 17, 2010 - The Waterfall Way - Armidale

Bright and early we headed to Armidale for a two night stay – our last proper stay on this trip. The caravan park was very nice and a little way outside the town so it was quiet and convenient to the Waterfall Way. This road crosses over the divide and carries on to the coast with several National Parks along the way. We only had one day to spend here, the weather had cleared and so we headed up into the ranges to the little village of Ebor, which is half way between Armidale and Coffs Harbour and at the top of the Great Dividing Range....

May 15, 2010 - Leaving Baramul/Armidale

Yesterday I left Baramul and drove with Tara to Armidale where she lives. It was very strange to drive past the gates for the last time but also exciting to be moving on. Tara lives in a big house on a small property just past Armidale. Her dad is a mechanic and they have about 15 old cars in their backyard. Today we went into Armidale and wandered round a bit, did some shopping. Tara's sister Alice was playing in a netball match at 3 so we went and watched the first two quarters, which brought back some interesting memories of school...

Feb 7, 2010 - Armidale

Dec 4, 2009 - Lamington National Park

Drove up into Tamborine Mountain in Lamington National Park. The views were mindblowing - everything over here seems to be on a different scale altogether - including the incredible distances you can see - talk about a "big country"! Took a walk in the rainforest surrounded by absolutely massive trees. One in particular, called the Strangling Fig starts its life when a bird drops a seed at the top of a host tree. The Fig then lives off the host by sending roots all the way down the tree (over many years, of course), devouring the tree as it...

Mar 14, 2009 - Tenterfield to Armidale along the "New England Highway"

Saturday March 14 We had our first really cool night in the van and used the duvet provided with the rental for the first time on the trip. After our usual breakfast in the campervan, we had an early morning walk through Tenterfield and picked up lots of information about the area. Later in the morning, we headed north to Bald Rock National Park, where we went for a glorious hike in sunny cool weather up to the summit of Bald Rock. The rock is 1,277 metres above sea level though less of a climb from where we began. We took the steep path...

Feb 15, 2009 - Guyer

Travelled south to COFFS HARBOUR. Wild surf here running into a westerly wind (Low preddure sitting off the coast) Watched a surf board contest for a while. Lots of waterways & points to watch the surf. Headed inland away from the rain & wind (weather forcast not good) Across the hills, through the clouds, Dorrigo, Ebor, and on to Guyer. Stayed here at the highest caravan park in Australia 1333 metres. Bit chilly now 15 degrees C at 6pm. But this is summer! Ah but the air is clean clear & fresh

Oct 29, 2006 - Cathedral Rock national park

So we head south, well off any path that public transportation could take you and head for "waterfall way". However, by the end of the day, we aren't too close to any waterfalls. We are on the western edge of the scenic drive and anything that would have been scenic, well, the drought must have gotten. However, our friends, the trusted flies are still with us. Bless them, we wouldn't want to forget them alreay! We are actually in Oaxley Wild Rivers National Park, right next to Cathedral rock national park and, well, Cathedral Rock fits much...

Jan 9, 2005 - Into New England

The first leg of the trip back to Brisbane, and poor old Steve had to do all the driving today as I still didn't quite feel back up to it - brain seems to be taking an eternity to readjust itself. Having said that, the constant motion of the car felt quite beneficial, and I'd hope to get behind wheel tomorrow. We chose to come up the New England Hwy, which is the inland route, rather than along the coast as it has far less traffic this time of year, when the world & his wife (and kids) are all zooming up and down the coastal road as it's...
