Mar 23, 2012 - Leaving Australia :(

Left Australia today... Sad goodbye to my Mum, Dad, gorgeous Sister and Handsome Boyfriend... Made it as far as the Sydney Airport before the tears started to flow :(... Mostly sad about the fact that my time away travelling and seeing the world means that I am missing out on time spent with the important people in my life. I wish I could be in two places at once. Watch my little sister go to school and come home with her shoe laces untied :P... Have a yummy lazy meal on Friday night in front of the TV, snuggled on the couch with my mummy...

Oct 18, 2011 - Aus - Day 163 - 167- Canberra

Unfortunately, we didn't get to spot the water dragon or platypus. We woke up to a beautiful sunny morning, enjoyed our surroundings, and made our way to the city of Canberra in the ACT province (Australia Capital Territory). Canberra was built about 100 years ago as the Capital city for Australia, after a long search for the perfect location. It's a nice city of 300,000, with wide streets and is very clean, with lots of parks and recreational areas. Some of the attractions we saw during our 3 days in Canberra included the...

Sep 6, 2011 - Canberra, Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

Canberra is located geographically within the state of New South Wales, but is a separate territory called the Australian Capital Territory or ACT. It is about 200 miles southwest of Sydney and is the capital of Australia. The name Canberra comes from an aboriginal word meaning “meeting place”. This site was chosen in 1908 after the Sydney/Melbourne rivalry for being Australia’s capital resulted in a stalemate. The city is small compared to Sydney and Melbourne with a population of only 500,000. It is considered by some as a colonial...

Jul 10, 2011 - Canberra

Jun 28, 2011 - Canberra ACT - June 25 - 29

Frosty, cold mornings and beautiful days in our Nation's Capital. Spent our first day at Ol and Ray's place for a bbq lunch and a catch up of the past few years. Our second day was enjoyed with a few hours at Cockington Green, a wonderful miniature village of famous landmarks and Towns from around the world, followed by a visit to the nearby Dinosaur Museum, viewing many life-sized skeletons, along with fossils and models. Our last day is always our easiest day, so we went to the Movies and saw "Bridesmaids" before starting the usual...

May 21, 2011 - Canberra Trip: Day 4

The last places on my list of places to visit were telstra tower and Cockington Greene. Cockington is a literally "tiny" city located in the beautiful scenery in Canberra. I had always wanted to see it so before i left i went to see it!! Amelia didn't come, for she had already left. Oh well, maybe next time. I also saw before i boarded the plane telstra tower. to me, it was like the Eiffel tower of Canberra. i didn't get to good of a look though, for i had to board my plane at 1, and it was already 12:30. Good the thing i was already...

May 2, 2011 - Canberra Trip: Day 3

Even though I had set my alarm clock last night to wake me up at six, it was 6:30 when I actually got out of my bed. I wasn't surprised though, for yesterday had been an extremely long day, and I had been very tired. Anyway, after breakfast, it was 7:50, so I rushed for the hallway that we agreed we would meet in. We decided that we would see many of the attractions we had wanted to see if we went on the Hop on, Hop off explorer buss. The only thing was that the bus didn't start taking passengers until 11. We couldn't just wait there or 3...

Apr 29, 2011 - Canberra Trip: Day 2

I woke up this morning at 7:00, and I immediately got up to go eat, again, at the ottoman cuisine(I'm not sure which I prefered; dinner or breakast!) Then I went out for a ride around on lake Burly Griffin. After my tour, I rented a bike and went and just rolled around. I actually met someone who taught me how to canoe!!! Her name was Amelia, and it just so happened that she was staying in the Hyatt Hotel Canberra too! We walked back together and we ate at the Waters edge restaurant. It was really yummy. It was late when we parted, but we...

Mar 22, 2011 - Easter in Canberra

We took a little trip to see our friend Bill who we used to work with in Bude. He's living in Canberra so we visited the sites there. We walked around a lot on Easter Saturday and saw a couple of old car rallies and the Old and New Parliament Houses and a couple of nice gardens along the way. In the evening we went to see a band play who Bill knows from home (Narooma). Had a good night. On Easter day we went to the war memorial which is really impressive and has a big museum attached to it so we spent some time in there too. Then we went...

Feb 5, 2011 - Hockey, hockey, hockey

Just a couple of random pictures today, as it was a day of hockey for Mike and I . The rest of the family went swimming. We watched 3 games on nhl.com. And each game the team I was rooting for lost, including my Chicago Blackhawks. Go figure! However the pitcher of drinks Mike mixed for us, soothed my frazzled nerves This will probably be my last entry for a couple of days, as we are off to Sydney until Tuesday evening. No laptop to take with me, as it packed it in. Fortunately I have everything backed up. I believe it is a heat thing (no...

Feb 4, 2011 - National War Museum - Canberra

4 Feb '11 Todays entry in the blog will be short, and probably only of interest to ex-military types and military buffs. I forgot to mention before that the trees here are full of these bugs called cicadas. When it is going to be a hot day, they really are noisy. Nature's thermometers, neat eh! We went to Canberra with Mike, as he went there on business. He dropped us off at the Museum. Normally I am not exactly keen on museums, but this one was fascinating. Lots of stuff I recognize too. Mess Tins, how well I remember them from my army...
