Mar 25, 2013 - Days 66 - 72...UPDATE NOTES......

Hi All, Leaving Eden we moved 50 odd kms to Tathra to visit Anne’s brother and sister in law overnight then moved to Cooma to see our daughter Kim, husband Andrew and their kids. We had a couple of days there and went to Jindabyne with them at the base of the Australian Snowfields but its autumn so no snow. Then off to the nation’s capitol Canberra for 7 nights. There is so much to see here you really need to go to just one venue for a few hours and absorb just a small aspect of it, to do that would probably take over a year or so...

Mar 15, 2013 - OOPS! Water Police again

OOPS WATER POLICE AGAIN! Lake Burley Griffin is where we headed to. We rode our bikes along the lake for a few kilometres. (Not as many as it seemed.) Then we spied a boat ramp and thought "we can put the boat in here" so we high tailed it back to Truk42 and drove to the spot. It was fun getting the boat down and assembled, (don't forget it's a 'Porta Bote'). It took about half an hour. I'm sure we will get quicker as time goes on. I had a quick check about boats on Lake Burley Griffin and the website said you needed a (free) permit for...

Mar 14, 2013 - The National War Memorial

We said goodbye to new friends and watched the vintage cars leaving the motor village. They were all dressed in 1900's costumes and were going to have morning tea with the Governor General, then on to the War Memorial. It was already our plan to go to the War Memorial and we parked in one of their vast carparks next to another motorhome. We joined a tour but as their was a VIP there, it turns out the President of Mozambique, we couldn't go straight to the garden and memorial of remembrance, but took the tour through the World War I and...

Mar 13, 2013 - Cockington Green

This morning we did some amazing turning to get out of this spot. David and I have worked out hand signals and we're able to get into and out of spots very well, even so it was very tight. We went to Cockington Green which is a miniature English village. It has many facets to it and definitely worth seeing. The International section has so many miniature replicas of well known sites in the world and many hours have been put into them. The grass was so perfect we actually thought it wasn't real, but it turned out it was. We went chasing...

Mar 12, 2013 - Question Time!

Seriously, how amazing is this! We rock up to Parliament House just after 10 a.m.as we wanted to park early and get the tickets for question time. we saw our friendly cop who said "you're here again." I guess he couldn't miss us. Then we parked underneath in a spot just the right size. When we went up into the sunshine just in front of Parliament House, we asked a policeman what was going on. He told us that it was the Centenary of the founding of Canberra. We have just arrived at the right time, but we had no idea. There were the military...

Mar 11, 2013 - Parliament House

We arrived into Canberra and went straight to Parliament House to have a look. It is very impressive. We drove right round the front with the motorhome. David said "jump out and take a photo". I got out as quick as I could as we were not allowed to park there, and went across the road and took a picture of TRUK42 in front of Parliament House. Then we saw a policeman coming towards us on his bike. He was very nice and said we could park underneath. Of course we asked him if anything this size could fit and he told us that buses parked...

Mar 10, 2013 - Epilogue

Home again. What a week!!!! It will take me some time to recover. Sort of embarrassing to get home to see the state of our public transport, the litter and rubbish at the roadside, the dirty trains, graffiti everywhere. Must be a “western” thing… Fortunately we caught the Express Centrelink Bus that replaced the train from Sydney to Canberra so first stop was Queanbeyan... Had a steak roll from Billy Banks takeaway and fell asleep waking around 10:30 this morning…. Gracie was pleased to see us and had no idea we wanted to sleep in so had to...

Hong Kong!!!

Feb 22, 2013 - Packing for Hong Kong

Well this time next week we with (with some luck) have landed in HK and be on our way to our lodgings, the tres upmarket Cosmopolitan Hotel in Wan Chai. Yes the home of Suzi Wong, Wan Chai. Our tour director very cleverly found this Hotel right on the Happy Valley/Shaw Kai Wan/Kennedy Town tram line so we will be convenient to all the top spots... Carol is bursting with enthusiasm to get into the shops (the entire excercise is to celebrate her birthday) and Disneyland, the "Sneaker St Market" and she is also keen to take the Peak Tram and...

Jan 14, 2013 - Hot Hotter Hottest

Happy New Year everyone! There is a strong Laos community here in Albury/Wodonga and we were invited to join them at a dance to see 2013 in. How they all coped with the band’s unbearably LOUD music and singing was beyond me - until I filled my ears with tissue balls then began to enjoy the evening festivities! We’d spent the previous weekend at Mulwala and Yarrawonga on the shores of Lake Mulwala, an “Inland Aquatic Paradise” according to one article, situated in regional NSW and Victoria about 100kms from Albury. I found the myriads of...

Jan 10, 2013 - Capital Day 10

10 Januari rondgekeken in Canberra, letterlijk 2 mega rotondes die verbonden worden met een paar straten. Bloed heet maar gelukking is alles dicht bij elkaar. ’s Avonds de bus verder genomen naar Melbourne. January 10th looked around in Canberra, literally 2 large roundabouts connected with several streets. Hot weather but luckily everything is close. Took the bus to Melbourne that evening.

Dec 27, 2012 - An xmas time departure

Just a quick entry to begin yet another blog of my travels. Its strange I've never traveled further than the south coast of New South Wales at this festive time of the year. Its just another day in the calendar, but I guess seeing my whole family at xmas time means that it feels like i'm leaving a lot more behind this time, even if it is just for 2 or so weeks. I can of course clarify that the Qantas club is as empty as I've seen it at Canberra for a long long time, so maybe 2 days after xmas is a good time to travel. Then again the...
