Nov 21, 2009 - A rainy day in BA
Well it's Saturday evening and we're sitting in a funky little hostel, with no glass in the windows, watching the rain pour down on Buenos Aires. ... Made even better by the complete coincidence of our good friends Tom and Doris also being there, sitting right in front of us!!! Sometimes things just work out! Then it was two long days on a plane to get to Buenos Aires. ... We will be spending at least the next two months here, learning to speak Spanish and dance tango.Well it's Saturday evening and we're sitting in a funky little hostel, with no glass in the windows, watching the rain pour down on Buenos Aires. ... Nov 18, 2009 - Buenos Aires
We flew up from Southern Patagonia to Buenos Aires leaving the cold and snow behind us - it was nice to get off the plane and feel warmth again! On our first night in Buenos Aires we ventured up to the Palmero district to go to a restaurant called "La Cabrera" that was highly recommended to us. ... 30pm (had lost track of time a bit by then) - it was really good so worth the wait - even though it is an Argentinian steak house (so not much for me the vegetarian) but Adrian thoroughly enjoyed his huge chunk of steak (and my pasta and salad was very good too!) The next day we decided to do a city bus tour because Buenos Aires is so big and because there is so much to see. ... The tour took us through Central Buenos Aires, the district of Recoleta (which is very plush) and La Boca - where we visited the Boca Juniors football stadium which is a famous Argentinian team that Diego Maradona played for. ... It is a fascinating place to look around as the tombs are so ornate and spectacular - I've never seen a cemetery like it! After Recoleta we made our way down to Puerto Madero which is the renovated docks area of Buenos Aires, where we had dinner ... and wine! I absolutely love Buenos Aires so I could talk ...

Nov 17, 2009 - Summary of Ushuaia - Part II
SATURDAY - 14/11 Today is my birthday! To begin with I want to say a great big thank you to everyone who has congratulated me today! It has been a very nice day and I have enjoyed it very much. We seem to be getting very good at using the webcam nowadays - probably thanks to a half-decent broadband connection here in Ushuaia. ... We ended up going to the same restaurant as we went on our first night in Ushuaia. ... They have very nice food.SATURDAY - 14/11 Today is my birthday! Nov 14, 2009 - Ushuaia - The end of the world
From El Calafate we flew down to the southern most city in the world - Ushuaia. ... We took a boat from Ushuaia down the Beagle channel which joins the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and has Argentina on one side and Chile on the other. ... Finally we visited a Husky Dog breeding centre where we learned about the dog sledding, unfortunately not enough snow to try it but we got to cuddle and stroke the dogs - who were gorgeous! Whilst in Ushuaia we also visited another brilliant museum which used to be the prison (because of its remoteness Ushuaia was also used as a penal colony by Argentina). ...

Nov 13, 2009 - Summary of Ushuaia - Part I
The main aim of going to Ushuaia was to see if we could get onto a cruise to the Antarctic. ... As most Antarctic cruises depart from Ushuaia it’s often possible to find last minute deals from here. ... We had managed to get a list of all tourist companies in Ushuaia from the tourist information office. ... We are fairly tired after our journey down, especially the Rio Gallegos to Ushuaia leg, and we aren’t too keen on long bus rides in the close future. ... I don’t think we would ever forgive ourselves if we miss the departure due to a snowstorm or a strike! So we have now decided to stay in Ushuaia and relax and have a look at the Tierra del Fuego region. ...

Nov 11, 2009 - Return to Argentina - El Calafate
After our trek in the Torres del Paine National Park we had one last night in Chile before crossing over to the Argentinian side of Southern Patagonia and heading to the town of El Calafate. ... El Calafate is a nice town, although quite touristy because from there you can visit the Los Glaciares National Park and the Perito Moreno glacier - the only glacier in the world that is stable and not receding. ... We stayed a few days and we made a trip to the national park and visited the glacier where we went for a mini trek on it with the help of crampons on our shoes! The trek was really good and we got to see giant crevasses etc, then we finished with a glass of whiskey! The glacier is amazing, you can watch giant chunks collapse and drop off the front of it into the lake with a massive crash. After our trek in the Torres del Paine National Park we had one last night in Chile before crossing over to the Argentinian side of Southern Patagonia and heading to the town of El Calafate. ...
