We boarded our Antarctic cruise today and we have had a fantastic time on the ship so far. Iris has been really excited about the cruise for a long time and it’s been one our main topics of discussion during our stay in Ushuaia. ... Nov 14, 2009 - Ushuaia - The end of the world

From El Calafate we flew down to the southern most city in the world - Ushuaia. ... We took a boat from Ushuaia down the Beagle channel which joins the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and has Argentina on one side and Chile on the other. ... Finally we visited a Husky Dog breeding centre where we learned about the dog sledding, unfortunately not enough snow to try it but we got to cuddle and stroke the dogs - who were gorgeous! Whilst in Ushuaia we also visited another brilliant museum which used to be the prison (because of its remoteness Ushuaia was also used as a penal colony by Argentina). ...

The main aim of going to Ushuaia was to see if we could get onto a cruise to the Antarctic. ... As most Antarctic cruises depart from Ushuaia it’s often possible to find last minute deals from here. ... We had managed to get a list of all tourist companies in Ushuaia from the tourist information office. ... We are fairly tired after our journey down, especially the Rio Gallegos to Ushuaia leg, and we aren’t too keen on long bus rides in the close future. ... I don’t think we would ever forgive ourselves if we miss the departure due to a snowstorm or a strike! I have definitely exhausted ALL that Ushuaia has to offer now - from End of the World museums to cake shops, to every possible piece of penguin tat, I've seen it. ... And it was all very nice but now I am certainly more than itching to get on the ship and set sail for the icy waters of Antarctica! The excitement of today was to move hotel, upgrading to a 4 star in the town centre, right opposite the harbour where our ship docked.I have definitely exhausted ALL that Ushuaia has to offer now - from End of the World museums to cake shops, to every possible piece of penguin tat, I've seen it. ... Today was a really boring day traveling to Ushuaia. ... There is only one company - Techni Austral - doing buses from Rio Gallegos to Ushuaia so people have to book early during the high season. ... Our bus quickly left the ferry port and we continued our trip towards Ushuaia. ...
