We have been on a bus for over 12 hours with no bathroom. Most of the road was unpaved. It was a hard ride. We arrived in the extremely small town of Perito Moreno (not to be confused with the glacier Perito Moreno). The hostel was by far the most cosmetically challengened. It was a little like roughing it in Mexico in the 80´s. We ate (I passed) dinner at the hostel-hotel restaurant. It was very interesting. Dec 1, 2009 - Route 40 - Day 1

While being in El Chalten and El Calafate we have really felt that we have been isolated. It really feels that it’s in the middle of nowhere. The communications isn’t that great. Most people seem to fly in and out of El Calafate. The bus connections are also pretty sparse. They don’t seem to have very good internet. In El Chalten they used some sort of satellite internet that made it prohibitively expensive to do any surfing. We have booked ourselves on a bus along Route 40 taking us through inner Patagonia.
