Feb 6, 2007 - Hiking

Hiking to Lago de los Tres- an 11 kilometer hike in with 750 meters rise. I swear that was all in the first kilometer and the last. It was hard, though not as hard as our last hike. It was beautiful, through so many different kinds of wilderness. and the end result was spectacular. A view of the mountain Fitz Roy, though the clouds did not allow us the perfect view that we wanted. It was a warm hike up but when we got to the top it was bitterly cold with the wind. We only stayed up there for half an hour to eat lunch and we were really cold...

Apr 21, 2006 - Fun on the ice!

Hey there campers hope your all well. In a place called El Calafate at the moment, took a trip to see the Morreno Glacier a couple of days ago, that was one huge chunk of ice! it was very impressive, apparently it was 50 meters above the water and 700m below! It made such a noise as massive bits of it fell off into the water, although it was sometimes dround out by the sound of Argentines giving it a round of applause! (didnt really understand why) We then set off to Chalten, quite a randomly scattered village that has two tourist...

Mar 30, 2006 - Ruta 40 and El Chalten

The screeching noise from the engine followed by the smell of burning rubber meant only one thing - the fan belt had gone. And the bus had not even made it out of Los Antiguous yet, our home for the evening. For some reason, a mechanic was not called and so our co-driver managed to complete the task in 5 hours. Since we were the only two on an 85 passenger bus, we weren't quite sure if the bus would even move again that day. Fortunately, we were idled right across the street from a nice hotel, which made the wait seem a little less...

Mar 21, 2006 - El Chalten

After spending yesterday in El Calafate chilling today I got on the bus and headed to El Chalten. Once here I spent the next 3 days tramping on day hikes with 2 beauitfully fine days and one day when it snowed. I met a Candian French guy (Jack)who I did all the day hikes with and which work out well as he was a lot faster uphill then me but I caught him on the downhills. Wonderful views and wonderful wildlife everywhere such a change from Torres Del Paine.

We voelden ons...

Dec 2, 2005 - Chalten and the Fitz Roy range

Chalten is a tiny town constructed solely as resting/price gouging place for tourists visiting the stunning Fitz Roy Mountain range. Named after the famous explorer and captain of Darwin's Beagle, the peaks are some of the most notoriously difficult to climb, and even see, in the world. Climbers often wait for weeks for a window to conquer the tallest, Fitz Roy, or more demanding, Cerro Torre. All I wanted to do was catch a glimpse. Nor were my chances looking good, especially given luck I've been having with weather. The day I arrived I...

Jan 29, 2005 - ARGENTINA - El Chalten - Fitz Roy Massif

We decided to take a 3 day trip from Bariloche to El Calafate along the Ruta 40. The road was mostly unpaved after the first day and we had to wait for 3 hours on the 2nd day for the bus driver to change a wheel, which must happen frequently on these roads. We ended up arriving in El Chalten at midnight and woke up in the morning to look out our window and see Fitz Roy, which made the 14 hour trip the day before worth it... We spent the day hiking up around Fitz Roy - See photos.

Jan 26, 2005 - El Chalten

Jan 4, 2005 - New Year in Fitzroy

After Calafate we headed north again, only 5 hours down a dusty rocky road this time to a town called El Chalten next to another national park. It was a pretty small town, fairly isolated, they only had satellite phone access, no land lines! But lots of international tourists come to do some hiking. We had a fun New Year´s Eve with a Dutch couple we met and the following day dawned a spectacular day. Unfortunately we were only good for a couple of hours walking, michelle went to the lookout in the morning and i had to wait until the...

Dec 24, 2004 - El Chalten and Mount Fitz Roy

The Day before yesterday, I caught the 8 am bus to El Chalten. It was 4.5 hours of loooong, boring, dusty, unpaved, bumpy roads over patagonia......I reached El Chalten to a constant rain and clouds and it was a gray, depressing day and you couldnt see anything.....That was pretty much how the rest of the day went....and I just stayed in and slept...To be honest, I was extremely depressed and pissed off that I was in El Chalten and slept most of the day.... Later on, went downstairs in the hostel and met some people....I had pretty much...
