Feb 25, 2013 - Uspallata

2/25/2013 We left our parking area about 9 AM and found a camp in Uspallata, just an hour away. The name of the camp was Ranquil Luncay. We took today to rest and catch up. Nice camp, lousy bathrooms and showers, located a little out of town so was quiet and peaceful.

Dec 13, 2008 - Los Puquios

Both of us woke up at 5am and proceeded to chat. Finally we got up around 8am - that is the time the sun warms up the tent - and made our breakfast. Again the highway was pretty quiet other than a bus that said 41st & Oak was trucked by. We packed up the tent and FINALLY the bags are ready to give to Emmanuel to put on the mules up to Base Camp. We walked into Puente del Inca and had a picnic lunch in front of the Puente (bridge). Puente del Inca is famous for its thermal pools and its mineral bridge - unfortunately you can no longer reach...

Dec 8, 2008 - Los Puquios / Puente del Inca

Today is the day we start our gradual uphill journey. We are up early and leave the Cuyum Mapu Hostel and take a taxi (very overloaded with our luggage!) to the bus depot. Today is a holiday in Argentina so thankfully we were able to find a porter as each of the bags weighs over 50lbs! Bus departure to Puente del Inca, a 3 1/2 hr ride west of Mendoza on Ruta 7 towards the Chilean border, was 10:15am. At 10:00am I happily stand in line with everyone else to board while Fero is poised to load the bags underneath. You can imagine the shock...

Jul 3, 2008 - Argentina, Uspallata

We spent 2 days in Mendoza, in the centre of Argentina's main wine growing region. It was a busy town but seeking more nature we didn´t stay long and headed up the mountains to a tiny town called Uspallata. The drive there was through a beautiful scenic area and on arrival we found a quaint little hostel on one of the two streets in town owned by a lovely old Argentinian couple Pierre and Beatrice. Uspallata is surrounded by the gorgeous Andes and you may be familiar with the movie ¨7 years in Tibet¨ which was filmed here. There is a...
