Apr 1, 2005 - Don't Cry for Us!

Janice and I have safely arrived in Buenos Ayres after a 27 hour trip and are loving our time in Argentina. Everyone we meet is incredibly helpful and friendly! On the way here, we had a good ole time in the US of A for seven hours when we had a layover in Dallas. Who woulda thought you could find a 50,000 square foot store devoted entirely to bass fishing ... what a place to blow an afternoon...lol! I was memorizing my Spanish vocabulary on the trip from Calgary to Dallas. We weren't in Latin America yet when I found my first victim, the...

Mar 23, 2005 - Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA

BUENOS AIRES After waiting around for a connecting flight in Lima, Peru for 14 hours we finally boarded the plane for Buenos Aires. We arrived at 7 the next morning armed only with a couple of hostel addresses. Totally forgetting what city life was like, we were shocked at how big and scary BA was. However, after some sleep and a walk to the main square (where to Michele's excitement there were hundreds of designer shops) we felt a lot better. It wasn't long before it was dinner time so went to a place we had previously spied in San Telmo....

Mar 23, 2005 - Buenos Aires, Argentina

The road from Eastern Patagonia to Buenos Aires takes you through "The Pampas", a broad area of flatlands where cows are raised to be slaughtered and taken to Buenos Aires where they are served in the renowned Buenos Aires steakhouses. Since Amit's mom collects cow paraphanelia, we thought it would be fun to steal a cow and take it home to her as an Argentinian souvenir, so we put one in our packback. Such a beatiful cow it was, white and black like a cookie with the same characteristics. Unfortunately upon our arrival to Buenos Aires, we...

Mar 21, 2005 - Back to Buenas Aires...Adios Ericksons!

Well we know its a bit late to update our return of B.A, but we've finally found ourselves a rainy day and some time off to visit the computer for a bit. After the Erickson clan headed home, we found oursleves a comfy B & B of sorts to aid in the adjustments from extreme luxury to extreme UNLUXURY. Upon refelecting on the chaotic adventure with the Grizzwalds (Ericksons), we came up with few phrases that could best explain the nature of the trip. All throughout the trip a number of different 'episodes' occurred that we have taken the...

Mar 16, 2005 - Fly Ushuaia to Buenos Aires (BA)

16th March - Bit of a sleep in today so up at 9am. As my flight to BA was in the afternoon I took the City Tour bus in the morning, to pass the time. Temp in Ushuaia was about 10 degrees. Got to BA (3.30 hr flight) and off the plane to 28 degree temp. Oh the chasing of the sun, such a great move. Booked myself into a 1 room dorm (as had not slept much in Ushuaia). It was small but felt like a palace to me. Went into town around 10pm and grabbed dinner and watched another football match. Realised that last time I was here I had been in bed...

Mar 12, 2005 - Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires, what a city! Its an absolute must to come here if you're ever in South America, as we well knew, so we decided to spend a full week here and looking back at our time it's a bit difficult to know where to start. First things first; I know I've said this about places in Argentina before but BA really is much more European than the other areas that we've been to. This makes a lot of sense as it was founded by several different groups of European immigrants, not just the Spanish, there were loads of italians amongst others; still...

Mar 10, 2005 - Argentina

I am not sure I will be able to continue my trip to see the rest of South America now that I have seen Buenos Aires. This is a very special city, a very hearty one with meat on its bones and not flimsy at all. BA is like Italy and Spain in one. It has a beautiful European feel and is full of charm and culture...it is sophisticated, refined and educated and you notice everything is different the first 5 minutes you arrive. The sticky humidity has been replaced by fresh Californian-like air and there is texture here...mountains and a diverse...

Where's Mojo?

Mar 9, 2005 - Buenas Aires, Argentina

We came a day or two early to make plans and reservations for when Tony, Marcy, Ashley, and Erin come...so we got to know the hip city of Buenas Aires a bit. Buenas Aires seems to be one of South America´s most sophisticated and appealing cities, as people sometimes refer to it as the Paris of South America...and we can see why. So much history and the architecture is some of the most complex of the world. It´s possible to see Alpine, British Colonial and Parisian Empire styles not only on one street but all in the same structure, and the...

Mar 3, 2005 - Buenos Aires

I know it's been almost 2 weeks since my last update. The Antarctica voyage has kept me very busy and rather incommunicado. I'm currently in Ushuaia about to fly out to Calafate (still in Argentina) this afternoon. So to go back a few weeks, I went back to Buenos Aires for the third time on Feb 16. I only had 36 hours there. This is where the travel clinic recommended that I get the rabies shots. It's a series of five, and I still have one to get on March 16, so I'm still carrying that bulky styrofoam box with ice packs. I spent Feb 17...

Mar 1, 2005 - Arrived in Buenos Aires (BA)

1st March - Arrived at the BA Airport and was glad to see my backpack also made it. Converted some Euro to Pesos grabbed a taxi and set out for my hotel, which was located smack city centre, should be easily accessible, however due to traffic congestion my Taxi driver informs me he is letting me off here and I have to walk to the Hotel. With gestures and pointing I was to walk 4 blocks west 2 blocks south - at this stage I am beginning to think maybe knowing Spanish would help me here - ah well bit late now. So off I go roaming the streets...
