Jul 9, 2018 - Buenos Aires, Argentina
Hola hola hola!

Apr 15, 2013 - Last Day In BA - La Boca
There was just one more day left in BA so of course I had to just do a little bit more of touristy stuff. I headed off to Plaza Dorrego for a coffee about 11.00am. They were just setting up their tables in readiness for the breakfast rush. Yep, at 11.00am, it was still slow and sleepy. I just don’t get it. Then to a local church that I had walked past so many times last year and never went into. It was beautiful. And so peaceful without the throngs on tourists that you could find at the Cathedral in the centre of town. The National...

Apr 14, 2013 - Being a Tourist in BA - Part 2
The schlepping all over town has continued for the past couple of days. I went back to Teatro Colón yesterday and did the tour, only to discover that they still had ‘lighting rehearsals’. What that meant was that the theatre part of the theatre was in darkness except for the stage. Of course we only discovered that when we got to that part of the tour. Hmm. Not happy Jan. The tour guide told us to talk to the ticket office to see what they could do in terms of getting a discount or something. Luckily there was a Spanish-speaking Brazilian...

Apr 12, 2013 - Being a Tourist in Buenos Aires
I’m very glad to say that my bag made it to me safe and sound. Apparently, it had gone on its own holiday to New York where it was spotted and sent back to where it was meant to be – with me! It’s amazing how the very simple things in life can bring you such joy. Clean clothes! Yey. Oh, and the essential of all essentials – my hair straightener. I felt like a million dollars! I’ve spent the past couple of days playing a typical tourist. I’ve walked all over this vast city. I’ve visited a couple of museums, the Cathedral, Plaza de Mayo and...

Apr 9, 2013 - Getting To Buenos Aires
I’ve arrived safe and sound in Buenos Aires but I have to say it was a mixed bag of events in getting here. Back in Sydney, my early morning started with trying to fight my way through to the breakfast buffet at my hotel. Older people – you’ve gotta love ‘em. The grey army just takes over. Think of a large flock of seagulls, swarming over the food, pushing and shoving and moving oh so slowly out of the way. Actually, they don’t move out of the way. They just stand there and you have to manoeuvre your way around, hoping you don’t knock one...

Mar 20, 2013 - San Telmo another side of Buenos Aires
Well we're pleased to say we haven't been able to top the Guanaco experience. When I close my eyes I can still see that thing charging our car. Before we left Patagonia we paid Almierto another visit passing by the accident scene. We brought him fresh fruit and vegetables and a bottle of wine to thank him for his hospitality but now we're in his debt again as he had been trout fishing and made empanadas from scratch which he insisted on sharing with us. He gave us a great welcome and was keen to chat ordering us out to the car to fetch the...

Mar 13, 2013 - Buenos Aires
Tour of City and the third most famous cemetery in the world after Paris and Milan. It is like a mini city. Main claim to fame is Evita. Traffic is chaotic. Anita forgot to remove her gold earrings and a stupid guy attempted to remove one......she screamed and he ran. A lesson to learn for all of us. We must stay together and remove gold! In evening we went to typical touristy tango show. Incredible dancing though and great costumes. No we didn't dance. When being driven back after midnight we were caught up in a demonstration with many...

Mar 12, 2013 - To Buenos Aries
A very muddy slippery road out of Bustamante, we left in the rain. Good timing yet again. This totally remote privately owned nature reserve provided friendly and helpful guides, cooks, owner and guests. Last night's Asado finished off the stay perfectly. Flight to BA was uneventful but lots of waiting around. Finally made contact with Norton rels who invited us out to dinner. Mariano and Mabel and their daughters were sooo friendly and entertaining. Even though Mariano is nearly 80 we were still talking well after midnight. Great night....

Mar 11, 2013 - Everything's big in Buenos Aires
Well the contrast couldn't be more different! Whereas Hanoi was crowded and condensed Buenos Aires has been created on a huge scale. The planners had amazing foresight and created massive boulevards such as Avenue del Libertador and Avenue 9 de Julio where traffic flows endlessly 9 lanes across (perhaps that's why the drivers seem so happy!). Not only are the roads wide but the footpaths are all planted with meticulously maintained beds of borders and flowers and cafes where tables and awnings have been added don't impede pedestrian traffic...

Mar 5, 2013 - Buenos Aires - the Tango and more
The tango show was amazing. The building itself was beautiful, marble, dark wood huge theatre. The dinner was very good, not awesome but what you expect for such a large dinner theatre and very generous with the wine. The show demonstrated many forms of tango over the years from the more traditional to today's version with incredibly more flare and in some moves almost erotic. The way they bend their legs, both the men and women is unbelievable. The show was almost 2 hours and seemed to go very fast. Definitely a must see event when in...

Feb 25, 2013 - On land and the beautiful Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires at last…. A quick and uneventful departure from the ship but due to a mix-up with our guide pickup we are in a bit of a panic. After a couple of phone calls we connect and are on route to our hotel. Turns out we have been upgraded and we find ourselves in a high end neighbourhood at an apartment hotel, Ayres de Recolata Plaza. Recolata is the neighbourhood and it is home to many beautiful parks and mansions. Our place is like a small studio apartment with couch, dining room and small separate kitchen so perfect for wine before...

Feb 22, 2013 - Finally, Ushuaia
We had no problem getting our bags and going thru customs. We had several hours layover but we had to switch airports from the International to the domestic. We booked the bus ride and got seats on the 9am one. It's about an hour drive so we were able to see some of Buenos Aires but since we were both pretty exhausted, I think we nodded off and missed a lot! We were to have left B.A. at 2:20pm but it was delayed a bit so we ended up leaving about an hour late. Arrived in Ushuaia at 6:15pm on Feb 22--long days of travel! Jeremias, from our...
