Oct 27, 2010 - Resistencia, Argentina - Pics Need Captions

Got a paltry brkfst.(bread & tea) and walked 1/2 km to hwy where bus passing by picked us up at 9am. Easy frontier crossing to Posadas bus terminal in Encarnacion where we got tickets to Resistencia. These plans were decided in the Encarnacion bus station where we were intending to get a bus to Sta Cruz in Bolivia (Jake wanted to see the pantenal and Mari the Gran Chaco). We discovered that the bus from Encarnacion goes first to Asuncion (where we just were), and then at 8pm a 24 hour bus overnite to Sta Cruz, missing a lot of what we might...

Oct 26, 2008 - Argentina at last!

We finally drove out of Paraguay this past Thursday, 10/23/2008. We've been reading the book of Exodus every morning as a morning devotional, and the morning we left we were on chapter 7. Intereting, this is the chapter when Moses & Aaron started their trials with the Pharoh in earnest. So we began our trials to reach Nicaragua. Our first stop was in Resistencia, Argentina. Not a long drive the first day, just 300 km. (that's 186 miles). This city is called the "city of sculptures" and, indeed, we found lots. Our daily driving schedule...

Oct 1, 2007 - Resistencia for a day

We've just stopped off here for the day, between night buses on our way to Iguaçu. The town centre was a very long smelly walk from the bus station(!), but Resistencia oherwise seems quite nice - lots of statues and sunshine, and a pretty central plaza which we enjoyed lying in! We also finally made it to a museum - the Museo de Belles Artes "Rene Bruseau" (they're usually shut when we get to them!!).

Jul 27, 2006 - The Road to Bolivia, Part 1 - Leaving Assuncion

Well, less than 48 hours after arriving, we decided to try and get to Bolivia to spend the next week or so there. What followed was a trial of will power, a lot of good luck and more time spent on buses and jeeps than we spent in Assuncion. Since the bus from Paraguay to Bolivia goes along roads which are dust tracks at the best of times, and the journey would take about 30 hours, we decided it would be best to go back in to Argentina for most of the travelling (for a start the buses look sightly less prone spontaneously falling apart). So...

Jul 14, 2006 - Corrientes

The night bus (14th - 15th July) journey up to Corrientes was hell itself. Never have I been on a bus which was so hot that I had to hug the cold window to be cold enough to sleep. Gah!!! Corrientes was nice, we got to see the church from the taxi window, and the Western Union money exchange office. Thats what I call tourism! And so on to Posadas!

Apr 18, 2006 - Posadas - 28hrs From Rio

18/4 - 19/4 In the late morning we packed, checked out and went to do some emails. We also had a nice lunch in self serve. Lenka`s 2nd celebratory meal. We made a decision to take the public bus to the terminal. One thing about Rio`s buses - they have a conductor behind sworling barriers that make it difficult walking through with a handbag never mind a backpack. We used the buses throughout our stay in Rio and they were always half empty and so we too our chances. 20min later an overcrowded bus arrived. We got on, got stucked with the...

Feb 14, 2006 - Not the best Valentines

Happy Valentines to all you lovebirds out there. Unfortunately for us Anna was the sick one today so our first Valentines, like our first Christmas away from home wasn't the most memorable. Not only was Anna ill but the heat in Corrientes was quite unbearable. We managed to walk around the Plaza de Mayo and riverfront before returning to the bus station to chill out in the shade before our next bus arrived. The more than intense sun and the heat killed us and this was the morning when it should be cooler. God only knows what it's like in...

Feb 26, 2005 - Corrientes, Argentina

Okay, just a very quick update (because if i dont put an update on i dont get a place marked on the map!) about Corrientes. This was our first stop off in Argentina, an old but small city which we were using to break up what would otherwise be a very long journey. We stopped off here for only a day and a half. Not much to report because the ´museums´ which our guide book highly recommended turned out to be poor or under refurbishment and the place itself was quite nice but nothing special. Arrived late in the evening and really struggled...
