Jun 23, 2009 - Engaged (and other tales from Buenos Aires)

(Mike starts) So as Karen said in the last entry we went out for dinner. It was to a restaurant called Al Galope. Al Galope is THE meat place for Buenos Aires Kosher food. It was a bbq joint, kind of like Memphis Blues (Vancouver place) without the pork. We ordered a 1/2 bbq platter which had all kinds of meats, lamb, beef, chicken, hotdogs, tripe, and some other stuff, not sure what. It was served on a mini bbq with coals below to keep it warm while we ate. It was yummy, and only 25 dollars in total for us. We also got a great pumpkin...

Jun 21, 2009 - Buenos Aires

We have now been in BA for 3 days, enjoying the non-backpacker lifestyle of staying at a time share hotel in downtown BA. Courtesey of Karen´s parents, we have an apartment sized room, with hot and strong pressure showers. Oh, and in BA they have the latest technology, much like Kansas City, they have toilets where you can flush the toilet paper, yes FLUSH. So when we were leaving Iguazu I found an Argentinian glass coke bottle, and given that I was unable to get one in Brazil, I did not want to let this one go. So I bought it in the...

Jun 2, 2009 - Tango Completo - Fabulous trip Completo

Sad to say the end is upon me, for this adventure anyway! I had a bit of a lazy morning and rightly so, as i have be Go Go Go today to fit everything in! It's pretty cold here about 9 degrees in the day though with Arctic winds ripping through your bones. This morning I found my way to a burrio (suburb) by the name of Recoletta. It is a very up-market neighbourhood and a pleasure to meander through. I stumbled across a wonderful old cemetery (La Recoleta Cemetery) opened in 1823, the layout of the cemetery was designed by the French...

Jun 1, 2009 - Barrio tour - BA

Oh what a glorious sleep in crisp white sheets, fluffy pillows, warm feather doona and the party going on ALL night outside my window. Even with my industrial earplugs I couldn't help but get up and wander back downstairs for an hour to join in the fun! Today I headed off on a tour - Buenos Aires is exceptional- dynamic, sophisticated and overwhelming. An exquisite combination of a European atmosphere and the charm of Latin American cities. The tour gave me an in-depth introduction to its history, its architecture, the culture of its...

May 31, 2009 - Buenos Aires

After grumbling that I had to get out of my warm bed at 4am, I was ready like superman before having to grudgingly wait 30 minutes for my 'Gone in 60 seconds' taxi driver. It seemed he had a suicide pact, but to his pleasure, and my displeasure, he did make up the time. A short four hour flight later and I was at the bus station in BsAs and a further hour later at my hostel. Being Sunday, and 2 hours ahead of Lima it was now 4pm and all the shops were shut. Then the sun shone down two streets over, where outside my window I could see...
