Wednesday As previously mentioned, the plan was to cruise in through the beautiful Lemaire Channel this morning. As luck would have it, we were socked into thick clouds and were unable to see the tops of these magnificent peaks that shoot up almost 7,000ft. On the other hand, thanks to great captaining from Oalf, we did make it through the channel, skirting within ~20ft between the cliffs edge and the massive ice bergs. Soraya in Antarctica

Dec 13, 2007 - Hydruga Rocks, Foyn Harbour, and Wilhelmina Bay

07.30 Breakfast A bit bleary eyed I looked out the port holeā€¦. A sea of ice is the best way to describe it. Sunshine, blue sky and beautiful mini icebergs everywhere, some of the most stunning landscape I have ever seen. Today was going to be a big day, our first penguin rookery and our first Zodiac cruise. There was a lot of anticipation at breakfast. Everyone was excited. 08.30 Landing Hydrurga Rocks. This small group of Islets is named after the Leopard seal, Hyrdrurga Leptonyx, and is home to a smallish colony of Chinstrap Penguins....

Nov 23, 2007 - Antarctica - Almost

The day that was meant to include some landings and a visit to an Antarctica Base. It went slightly off the rails. We are still at the bar, the time has just passed into the new day, the drinks were following after the perfect day and our recent sunset. Donna goes out for a smoke and comes running back in, Water is flooding the bottom deck, Our Deck! People are running out of their cabins, hitting the alarm, we run down the stairs to wake mum.
