Crossing the Bransfield Strait, Antarctic Sound and Penguin Island Our first proper day in Antarctica and having crossed the Bransfield Strait overnight we enter the waters of Antarctic Sound heading south to make our first landing at Brown Bluff. ... I boarded the small Zodiac dingy with the rest of the crew and soon was stepping foot on Penguin Island which was teeming with Chinstrap, Gentoo and Adelie penguins, some Weddell and Elephant seals and a full compliment of sea birds from Petrels to Albatrosses. ... ! One thing that can be said for Penguins is that for all their inherent cuteness…they absolutely stink!
