We were going to look into a cruise to see the sperm whales, but the weather wasn't cooperating this time. The cruise companies rely on the heli tours to spot the whales from the air. However, in poor weather conditions, visibility is poor and they can't spot the whales easily. So tours are then forced to cancel.
We headed out to the edge of town where you could walk out to the seal colony. You could get pretty close to them.
Having nothing to keep us in Kaikoura, we decided to head up to Picton and see if we can go standby on an earlier ferry. Our reservation is for tomorrow, but we shouldn't have a problem getting on early at this time of the year.
