Nesting Storks

Riverside In Coimbra

Going Up!

Looking Back Down!

Some Sort Of Duct?

Day 16 - Sun 26th Jan

Another lovely sunny start to the day & we took advantage of free Wi-fi to catch up with our blog & a bit of reading. We had another walk round the boats & spotted several storks nested up in pairs on the the top of tall poles nearby.

We thought of staying longer but decided to push on down to Coimbra about fifty miles away so left about noon. We were held up a bit at one point when a poor old stray dog insisted on running along the road. A goodly number of cars stoped to try & persuade it to move off the road but it just evaded them & kept running along in front of our stream of cars for a mile or so. Eventually he did turn off onto a bit of waste land & we were able to speed up again.

We found the recommended car park beside the river in Coimbra & parked up with about thirty other motorhomes, another freebie. We were going to just stop for lunch & then move on to Fatima for the night stop but Coimbra looked interesting so we decided to stay & go up into the city for a look around.

After lunch it was another uphill trek after we crossed the bridge over the river. Old cobbled roads & some hundred or so very steep steps got us to the top. Not a lot to see so we went off looking for the tourist office. Never did find it but we logged a couple of geocaches & found some sort of prison with a church behind the walls. We saw an old aqua or viaduct & a public garden but with the weather & the hills plus the lack of any signs we turned back. We did walk through the University area on the cliff above the river but there wasn’t anything there that we wanted to look at so we made our way back down the steps & the cobbled streets to the river & Maria.

Bit disappointed with Coimbra but at least our parking area was nice & also free.
