Nadi - Brisbane - Cairns
Day 71 Taxis, Buses and Planes
We are woken by the wake up call at 4.30 a.m. I'm up first, then Mark and lastly Marcus. The taxi picks us up at 5 a.m. and we say a sad farewell to Outrigger Beach Resort.
Arriving at the airport at 6.20 a.m. we check in and have breakfast before the flight. The plane is not a Fiji airline jet but is supplied with staff by Malindo Airways. To our surprise the plane is very roomy, much more space than on the long flight from LA to Nadi and we settle down for the 4 hour flight. Luckily Marcus manages to catch up on some sleep (he is feeling better than earlier in the week).
On arrival at Brisbane we pick up our luggage and head for customs where there are long queues, emptying out their luggage and having everything searched. Thank goodness we directed straight through to the exit with no search or interview. This seems a totally random system but it has worked in our favour so we're not complaining.
At last we are on Australian soil and we are so excited, looking forward to the next 2 months.
We are able to check our luggage in for our flight to Cairns at the Virgin desk in the international terminal which is really convenient. We now have a 7 hour wait for the next flight and the terminal seems a bit of a pain, but we are told their is a bus which will take us to a shopping area also with restaurants and cafes.
The bus takes us back to the domestic terminal and we wait in departures for our flight to Cairns. This takes off on time but we experience a bumpy ride with lots of turbulence. Two flights in one day is almost more than I can bear.
On landing we find Cairns dark but very warm and we have now been travelling for 17 hours. A taxi drops us at our airbnb and we fall into bed.
