Miss Daisy Driver Relaxing

September 26, 2019

We are off on our 12th camping adventure but not in our old faithful Roadtrek Adventurous! About a month ago we were at Jeanne and Chad’s for dinner where we met Tamie Honey who happened to be selling her 2012 MB Sprinter Via 25T. The rest is history! We picked up Miss Daisy on September 7, an hour after we got the news that Claire Marie, our first grandchild was born. (It was a BIG and exciting day for us!).

We had not talked about a bigger rig but realized if we wanted to continue our travels we would be more comfortable with a rig that would not require so much bending and stooping. She is 2 feet longer, a foot or so wider and 2 feet taller with much more storage and living space (a slide out) but on the same Sprinter chassis. She came fully loaded with everything needed to camp comfortably. Of course, we spent a fair bit of time rearranging things so that they were in familiar places for us. We did a “shakedown” trip to Manchester on the Pacific Coast in Mendocino county last week where we continued to rearrange. (On that trip we also got to see our friends, the Scotts who we have not seen in 3 years!)

We are “dead heading” to Denver which means long driving days for us. We have learned from the past few trips that we can no longer just show up for camping or a reasonably priced hotel. As a result, we have booked many spots.

The trip to Denver which, which we have done many times previously, is VERY boring and requires a good audio book. Bob was very pleased with how the car handled and we fortunately had no drama. When arriving in Winnemucca, we realized we had booked the Winnemucca Casino and not the Winnemucca Inn Casino where we have stayed previously and liked. Can’t believe we were able to cancel our reservation so late in the day. The hotel roos are very similar to BW but about half the price these days.

As we pulled into the parking lot we apparently did not go slow enough and doors flew open!!! No harm, no foul but I then could not find my pills! After frenetic looking, I found them tucked behind the lounge cushions.

We don’t like any of the restaurants but fortunately the Raley’s Family Market is within walking distance. They provide some fairly decent takeout food that we can have for dinner and breakfast.

Tomorrow is a 400-mile drive to Heber City, UT where we are staying in Jordanelle State Park. The park is very close to Bob’s cousin’s (Eileen and Mark Kweller) where we will have dinner.

Good to be on the road again and glad for more room. We are still getting our Miss Daisy “legs” but that is to be expected.

Will report on food and wine tomorrow!
