Edinburgh and Firth of Forth from Calton Hill

Calton Hill

Day 19. Sunday. 1/9/2019. Edinburgh

We had a good sleep in and late breakfast. We walked to Calton Hill, one of Edinburghs first public parks and an important part of the Edinburgh World Heritage Site. In the 1600’s it was the site of Public Executions. Wonderful views of old buildings of Edinburgh, from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to Edinburgh Castle, Parliament House and from the highest point you can see the Firth of Forth to Fife. Old buildings include the National Monument, Nelson’s Monument, City Observatory and Portuguese Cannon. An unsightly view of cranes and modern building couldn’t be missed!

At 4pm we met briefly with our tour guide before we have dinner together tonight. There are 32 on this trip, 6 Americans, 6 Brits and the rest from Oz. Australia rules!!
