Saturday 15 to Wednesday 19 June
Have spent the last couple of days moving west and anchoring off some lovely bays/coves. There’s lots of boats about, seen many super yachts at anchor especially around St Tropez.
Got a couple of gentle sails in with the sea breeze but otherwise it’s been pretty much motoring.
Passed a beautiful part of coast called the Les Calanques which includes a couple of bays/fjords – stunning.
Tried to anchor in a couple of bays off islands but these were full to the max so sought alternative anchorages. Anchored in one place where we knew there would be a ferry but didn’t know it would be as frequent as what is was and produce as much wash as it did. Needless to say we were glad to leave early the next morning.
Wednesday 19 June
Tried to anchor in the island off the Marseilles but looked wobbly wherever we looked so went into the harbour, Port le Frioul. Big harbour lots of space for visitors but not much else.
Thursday 20 June
As we couldn’t get into the old harbour of Marseilles (there was a regatta on), we took the ferry from the harbour.
Entering into Marseilles is impressive, especially with the forts and then the extensive harbour with all its boat concessionaires/ clubs.
Wandered around the town. Impressive in so many ways from opulent to poverty. So much history here.
We enjoyed some very nice (and overly priced) bouillabaisse (as apparently this is where the recipe originated from).
