Today we checked out of our hotel provided by our tour company and made our way via taxi to our new hotel in city center. We were able to leave our luggage at the reception and set out to go to the National Museum of Scotland, which was about a 20 minute walk. Once there, we learned it had free admission which was a shock, especially once we discovered what a fabulous museum it really is. We made a donation to support their exhibits.) It has exhibits on Scottish history but also on everything from migration from Scotland to rock and fossil exhibits ((Mark was in heaven) and a natural history section but the highlight for me was seeing Dolly the sheep, which was the first cloned animal. She has been preserved in a glass case but it was cool seeing her (see photo). After 4 hours in the museum, we headed back in the direction of our hotel and popped into John Lewis, a large local department store, for a look around. When we came out, the skies had gone from pure sunshine to a complete downpour. We were not smart because we rushed back to the hotel and were drenched only to see that within 5 minutes, the rain had stopped and the sun was shining again. We then met a couple for dinner that we had met on our Canary Island cruise 7 years ago. They were from Edinburgh and we became Facebook friends and have watched each other’s lives from afar but were able to meet up again. And alas, yes, we found the best sticky toffee pudding in the UK tonight at Howie’s Restaurant!
