Good evening from London,

Thursday was a free day. Good news...the sun was finally shining. Yippee!!! After a lovely morning walk, we headed over to catch the funicular up to the Harder Kulm viewpoint. The lineup wasn’t too bad so we were able to get on the 10:40 car. Within 10 minutes, we went from 566 meters/1857 feet to 1,322 meters/4337 feet above sea level and the views were amazing. I have so many beautiful pictures from this excursion, I don’t know how I’m going to pick which ones to include in the journal! For lunch we shared a cheese fondue with bread and potatoes for dipping...when in Switzerland you have to have a cheese fondue! It was actually really good and it just doesn’t get any better than eating lunch with a panoramic view of snow capped mountains. We spent almost 3 hours up top before heading back down.

In the afternoon we had a wonderful walk along the river and then checked out some of the stores along the main street. Yesterday when it was wet, the streets were empty. Today with the nice weather, everything is busy and alive. What a difference the sun makes! All things Swiss made are for sale everywhere. There are also lots of cow bells for sale in a variety of sizes!

Thursday night we had our farewell dinner for the tour. Tomorrow morning 7 of us have a day of train travel to return to London with our tour manager. Our Australian friends head off in different directions. Some are starting their journey home and others are carrying on to yet another European adventure. They’ve been a great group of travel mates and I think everyone enjoyed the tour. I know we certainly did!

It’s now Friday evening, we’ve arrived back in London and checked into our hotel. It was a long day. We travelled by train from Interlaken, Switzerland to Basel, Switzerland, then to Paris, France and finally back to London, England (over 1,000 kms.). Time for a nap!

Sharon and John.
