Florence to Corniglia (Cinque Terre), Italy
We didn’t have to be up so early today. Up at around 8am, then down to breakfast at a local cafe then back to our room to pack our bags and check out. Wheeled our bags the short distance over to the railway station in Florence. The station was like bedlam, packed with people and luggage and no seats at all. After some time waiting for the platform to be announced we boarded the train which left at 11:25am to Pisa, changed trains and caught one to La Spezia and changing again finally to Corniglia, the third village of the Cinque Terre. None of the stations had escalators and so it was some effort to get our luggage up and down the stairs but eventually arrived at our destination. We caught the shuttle bus up from the railway station and found the apartment where we were staying. It was up a flight of stairs (of course) but has a beautiful little terrace with a view of the village and also a distant view of the hills. Just beautiful! We settled in and then went for a walk round the village, had a glass of wine and a snack in a bar high above the sea. The weather was glorious today. There were many tourists in the village today, but are mostly gone by dinner time. We went out for dinner at a local restaurant Cucina Casalinga (Lynn had Pesto Lasagne, David had Chicken Schnitzel )back home to bed around 10:30pm. Our hiking starts tomorrow!!
