We stayed at the Oasis RV Resort in Las Vegas. We have stayed here before and it convenient to everything we do. It is located right next to I-15. Our friends, Grace, Mike and Rosie, live less than 10 minutes away. We came to Las Vegas for two primary reasons: to visit our friends and Tim had to fly back to Virginia Beach for doctor appointments. He flew out on Saturday (5/18) and returned on the 26th. Before he left he got into 2 poker tournaments with not so much luck. He did have more luck with roulette and on a slot machine called Sharknado.
On Saturday I spent a couple of hours at the New York New York Casino down on the strip. Didn't make any money, but had a good time. Later that day I picked up Rosie (she is 8) so she could spend the night. We went to dinner at Peter Piper Pizza (similar to Chuck E Cheese) which has games kids can play. She won enough tickets to get several prizes. On the way home we picked up a couple of movies at Red Box and had a great evening. On Sunday we went to an indoor playground for about 3 hours. When we returned to the RV park, we went swimming. She is like the Energizer Bunny, she never quits!
While Tim was gone I had dinner with Grace and Mike several times. Grace makes delicious Mexican food and introduced me to some that I had not tried before. It was all wonderful. wanted to do something for them so I decided to make them each a dessert of their choice (being 'gr8baker56'). Grace wanted cheesecake and Mike wanted apple pie. I gave Grace a very southern Praline Cheesecake. It was a huge hit!! I made for Mike a sour cream apple pie which incorporated two of his favorites. I believe he at it all himself!! They are such great friends and we had a wonderful time!
When Tim got back from Virginia Beach, of course he had to get back to his poker. When he played on Monday, he came in second place! Way to go!! The next tourneys didn't do anything for him. He enjoyed it all.
On Wednesday, 29th, we took trail ride up Mormon Well Road. It was a great desert/mountain trail. Along the way we saw these bushes with purple flowers. I just had to have pictures so I broke off a leaf of the plant. It was 'purple sage'. I had heard of that especially because of the Zane Grey book, 'Riders of the Purple Sage'. It is a really lovely plant and I was excited to learn about it. Also on this trip we had left the windows and doors of the Jeep back at the RV. When we got way back in the mountains it began to rain and get colder. At one point I had an umbrella sticking out the side (where the door wasn't!) to keep the rain off! Thankfully we had taken long pants and were able to put them on to stay a bit warmer. All in all it was a great trip.
On Thursday we visited the Clark County Historical Museum in Henderson. That was a great museum and entrance for seniors is only $2.00. It was well worth seeing. That afternoon we had Grace, Mike and Rosie over for a cookout and a swim for Rosie after dinner. Another great day.
Our last day in Vegas we took another drive on Lowell Canyon Road. It was quite interesting. There was another trail/road off of it that would take us back across to Red Rock Canyon, but we got up there a ways and had to return because it was a bit too rough for our Jeep. We had a great time anyway. That evening we had dinner at South Point Casino buffet with our friends. We will miss them, but we had a wonderful time visiting!
