Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

It rained most of the night and it continued through much of the day. The highway to the cave has been closed just past the entrance road to the cave as water covers the highway. The ballpark has several feet of water covering the entire field and they are adding to the top of the flood gates in an effort to keep the water out of the main part of town.

They are saying that this is the third worst flood in the history of Hannibal. More rain and storms are in the forecast so all we can say is “It isn’t over yet.”

I led a tour of second grade youngsters through the Mark Twain Cave today but the second tour didn’t go due to a lack of customers. Probably due to the water and signs saying the highway is closed, people aren’t driving out.

One of the campgrounds next to the river is flooded so many of those RVs are now set up here at Mark Twain Campground.

Marilyn & I drove to the Mexican Restaurant in Palmyra to meet with our friends for dinner. Bob & Janet, Bill & Deb, John & Julie, and Steve & Cathy joined us and we all had a good time. The laughter was constant even after the food was served. We exchanged hugs as we started home.

Marilyn & I drove by a home we may look at tomorrow. We’ll see how that goes. For now I’ll simply remind you that Life is Good!
