Montezuma ‘s Castle

Fort Verde

We went with our friends Emily and Mike to Montezuma Well. It is a well created by the power of is an oasis in a harsh desert, home to species found nowhere else. We also visited Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot. Southern Sinagua farmers built a five-story, 20 room dwelling between 1100 and 1300 AD. And in the valley below is Tuzigoot (Apache for “ crooked water” ) a cliff dwelling. It crownsthe Summit of a long ridge rising 120 feet above the Verde Vally. This was done 1000 and 1400 AD.

Then we visited Camp Verde State Historic Park. The fort was a base for General Crook’s US Army scouts and soldiers in the 1870’s and1880’s. Cool stuff to see with actual housing and guard station guns and rifles.
