2019 New Adventures of the Old Joyce travel blog

March 17-23, 2019 – Aransas Pass, Texas

March 17 – It was raining again this morning. It finally cleared off around noon. I watched some TV and read. It cleared off around noon and turned into a pretty nice day.

In order to get my lawn chair out to take to the fish fry I had to put the stuff from the trunk, which I’d removed so they could detail the car, back into the trunk. I hadn’t been out until then, but it was pleasant. I was worried that it was going to cold and rainy for the fish fry, but it turned into a really nice day with the sun even coming out for a few minutes.

There were about 40 people at the fish fry. There was plenty of fish and lots of good food to go with it. There are a lot of people who are leaving this week and even more over next weekend. There are several going next week and a few of us on the 1st. There are 3 or 4 who are staying until May 1st, but the majority of us will be gone by April 1st.

March 18 – It was very cool this morning. Fortunately, I had kept a couple of heavier sweaters out of storage. I needed one today. I spent the day trying to stay warm and reading.

I played Bingo tonight but didn’t win anything.

March 19 – This was laundry day. I got it all done. While the machine was running, I spent the time reading.

March 20 – I stayed up too late last night, but I wanted to finish the book I was reading. As a result, I’ve been tired all day.

We decided that today was the last day of exercise. One person is ill, two are leaving, and it just won’t be worth it. I’ll start doing the exercises in the coach.

There are 4 coaches pulling out tomorrow with more scheduled to go on Saturday and still more next week. There won’t be but a few Winter Texans left on April 1st. There are 2 couples who are not going until May 1st so they will be really on their own.

I ran into Corpus today to get something to take to the pot luck tomorrow night. This will be the last one until we are all back in November.

I called about getting the coach washed and waxed, but I may have waited too late. They are going to call me back if they can work it in.

March 21 – It was a beautiful day today. I had the windows open and really should have gone some place just to get out, but I was so engrossed in the book I was reading that the day was gone before I knew it. The book was Dangerous crossing by Rachel Rhys. I highly recommend it. It is set on a cruise ship which leaves London in late August, 1939 and arrives in Sydney, Australia 5 ½ weeks later just as war is declared. There are Jews, Italians, British and Germans on board. Everybody has a secret, and nobody is whom they seem to be.

March 22 – Today was another nice day although very windy. It was a little too cool to have the windows open today, but still it was good to see the sunshine. We haven’t seen much of that this winter.

March 23 – Another Hopalong Cassidy movie with Robert Mitchum in a bit part, but this one also had Duncan Reynaldo playing a bit part. I remember Reynaldo as The Cisco Kid. Makes things fun when you see people you associate with other roles in some of their early appearances.

It was another windy day. The sun was out, but it felt cool. I did have the windows open on the side away from the wind.

There has been to-ing and fro-ing today. People left and others came in. The poker walk this morning was just a gabfest. There were only 8 of us there, and no one wanted to walk so we just sat and talked. Most of the folks who were there are leaving either Saturday or Sunday.

I got reservations for next week set up. Normally, I wouldn’t bother, but this is a high traffic time along the routes I’ll be on as folks leave down here and head home.
