It was an easy 194 mile drive west on I-10 to Crestview, then south on Hwy 85 to Eglin AFB. Dave was stationed here way back in 1979. He likes to tell people,”that was back when we flew pterodactyls and dropped rocks”! Yes, it was what seems, like a lifetime ago. But, anyway now the present Eglin AFB is a little different and we drive a Motorhome onto the base. The RV Park is a basic setup and not much going on socially. We’re here just for three nights and intend on spending one full day doing something exciting. We found our neighbors, The Hendersons to be a wonderful family. They’re a military family of 6 here on temporary duty. As it turns out, the Mom of the clan has, in the past discovered this Travel Journal of ours and recognized us. It was so much fun to talk to someone who knew something about what we do and where we’ve gone!
Of the several exciting things to do in the area around Ft. Walton Beach and Destin, we chose to go see the Gulfarium. It’s location is ideal as it is on the beach at Ft. Walton. Easy to find and the prices are reasonable. We spent a very busy four and a half hours seeing all the shows. The dolphin and sea lion shows were very informative and super entertaining. We were present at the feeding of penguins and caiman with the handlers talking about various aspects of the lives of the animal. Overall, we’d give this Gulfarium 4 thumbs up, way up!
