After a one and a half hour flight to Los Angeles, a two hour layover there, a 15 1/2 hour flight to Doha; Qatar, A five hour layover there, then a 4 1/2 hour flight to Colombo. We were picked up by our driver who drove us to Wilipattu National Park, Stopping along the way to try coconut water from a king coconut. It was pretty good and refreshing. Saw coconut plantations, banana plantations, cashew trees, a herd of water buffalo, Cranes, lakes, and a Hindu temple. Arrived at our eco-tent cabin and were greeted with cold papaya juice and cold wet towels. We were shown to our tent which actually has two full rooms - A good size living room and a very good size bedroom. It is quite lovely but really hot here. We are heading to lunch shortly and then for a safari.Lunch was served at a private table in the jungle. It was really good consisting of five courses. We then got into a Jeep and headed off on safari. We saw lots of birds, cranes, storks, Eagles and owls. We then came upon a mother and child monkey pair. We also saw macaques, Crocodiles, water buffalo and various kinds of deer. We had almost given up when we spotted a young female leopard. She calmly walked out across the road and laid down in front of us. It was amazing. Later we were lucky enough to see another leopard and finally as we were heading back we saw two sloth Bears. We headed back to the room to be ready for dinner. Dinner was served at a private table under the stars next to a bonfire. Seven courses later we headed back to the room for much-needed sleep.
