Too Many Breakfasts In Walmart’s McDonalds

Day 46 - Saturday 23rd February

Noisy night on the car park even though the Walmart store closed at midnight, so we were up by 6.30am. The good thing though is that there is a small McDonalds restaurant inside this Walmart’s so that took care of breakfast for us & the stores’s toilets came in handy again. Then a final repack of our cases before setting off.

Before returning the RV we sidetracked to a nearby “Habitat For Humanity” charity store where we gave them the two folding chairs & the little electric fire that we bought at the beginning of our trip.

Then it was only a short drive to the RV depot where we handed “Dixie” back without a scratch on her, or none that they could see anyway. We even got a $100 refund to compensate for the problem we had with the microwave oven.

All sorted & we were ready to go by 9.30am. We could have taken the easy way then & taken a taxi straight from the depot to the airport but our flight was not due till 4.10pm so stacks of time. We did take a taxi to the metro train station about three miles away. We bought metro cards when we arrived back in January so we only had to use these to pay 35 cents for a ticket to get to the station near the LA airport to pick up the free bus into the airport terminals.

This was fine until the taxi dropped us at the metro train station only to find that a whole section of the metro train line had been taken out of service for four months of major upgrading. Fortunately we quickly found that they had laid on free buses to take passengers up to the working section of the train system so we were ok to continue to the airport as planned.

We got to the airport by 11.30am so had lots of time to kill before we could board. The usual queueing for booking in & then assign through security into the departure lounge. At least the had free Wi-fi o help with passing the time.

Miles today - 12

Final Total Miles - 2,970
