This week Matthias Naleppa, a researcher from Radford University, Waldron College School of Social Work, is conducting focus group interviews with us concerning assisted living for older adults retired in recreational vehicles. Our participation is completely voluntary so we had to sign an informed consent form. CARE was chosen because it is the only known program of its kind in this country.
Today I participated in the first round of interviews with about a dozen other residents. Mr. Naleppa asked several questions about our backgrounds and experiences on the road and how we came to our decisions to live at CARE. He wants to include only those who have actually lived the RVer lifestyle – not those who merely bought an RV only when they came to live at CARE.
Our responses were audio-recorded to ensure accurate reporting of the information that we provided. The recordings will be stored in locked files and the transcriptions will be destroyed three years after completion of this study. It was interesting to me to hear what the other participants said. I look forward to learning the results of the study.
