|Day 19. Sunday 27th January
Cold again during the night & the heater blower is too noisy to have that on so keeping snuggled under the covers. I bought a little electric heater from the Walmart’s in Kingman on the way here but that was useless against the cold so that’s going back.
Nice & sunny again so we soon warmed up again. Today we decided to take the RV off site & drive up to Sedona about 25 miles to the North. Sedona really is a lovely city set in the most spectacular area surrounded by spectacular red/brown cliffs & mountains. The shops & buildings are also mainly reddy brown adobe looking structures. A beautiful place.
We called on at the visitors centre in town & picked up some maps & suggestions for some of the many things to do in the area. Being Sunday though it seemed appropriate to first head for the beautiful Chapel Of The Holy Cross Catholic church just outside Sedona. It really is in the loveliest location set up on the hillside. We went there before in 2008 but it is certainly worth a return visit.
We had a bit of fun trying to find somewhere to park as we found out after entering the gates at the bottom of the approach road. Too late we saw the sign that said “No RVs” but fortunately one of the golf cart drivers that ferry people up from the lower road arranged for us to go half way up to a turning area & come back down again. We did find a spot to park down the road a bit & had to walk back again. We accepted the offer of a lift on another of the golf carts to the top so that saved our legs a bit. This is a very popular visitor spot so there were loads of cars & people visiting, especially as it was Sunday.
We went from there back into Sedona to look around the Indian shopping complex but as it was getting late we were getting hungry so went looking for somewhere to eat. We stopped at a Farmers Market but that didn’t have any food for us but we found a Mexican Cafe in a nearby mall where we dined on an all day breakfast of steak & eggs. Not only did I have to decide how I wanted my steak cooked but also how to have the eggs done & finally what sort of toast I wanted. In the end I settled on medium for the steak, sunny side up for the eggs & sourdough for the toast. Life is just too complicated these days.
A scenic drive then back to the site for another quiet evening of Rummikub & TV. No sign of any activities on the site anywhere.
