Among many things, Texas is known for its BBQ and there are more BBQ places than you can shake a stick at. One of our favorites in now a chain called “Rudy’s”. We also like “Bill’s BBQ” in Kerrville and there are several good BBQ places here in the Rio Grande Valley.
This evening our gang of 14, (Jim & Kellie, Denny & Jackie, Jim & Karen, Mike & Sandy, Eddie & Jan, Mike & Marian, and Marilyn & I) met up at a new place we had heard about. I think the reviews on the food were mixed. Some of the meat was a bit dry but the BBQ sauce was delicious and added moisture to the meat. I chose a baked potato with brisket and a cup of BBQ Beans. The huge baked potato was split open, slathered with butter, covered with pulled BBQ brisket, and topped with sour cream. It was absolutely great and I would order it again in a heartbeat.
Of course the company was the best part of the evening with the constant banter and laughter. Marilyn ended up wearing a huge sombrero. a blanket over her shoulder, and was handed two castanets to shake as the group sang “Happy Birthday” to her.
We had a wonderful time and the workers at the restaurant made sure that we knew they would like to have us return and I suspect that will happen sometime soon.
Our friends Heinz & Irene will be here on Sunday and that will be nice. These are some of the finest people we have ever met and we always enjoy their company. Many of our other friends know them and also look forward to sharing some time with them.
