Overlook stop on way to monastery

The Mt. St. Benedict's Monastery

Views of the city of Port of Spain

We had not been to Trinidad before so booked a tour.

First stop was a nice walk through the Royal Botanical Gardens. Lots of tropical and sub-tropical trees as well as trees from India, Burma and South America. We enjoyed this as it was a really nice day for a walk.

The next stop posed a challenge for our tour guide. It was the first time doing the tour for both the driver and tour guide, and they didn't really know how to proceed. The venue was the Mt. St. Benefict's Monastery. The road up was narrow and windy and we stopped for an overlook view of the city below. Then, found the Monastery perched 800 feet up. It took the guide about 30 minutes to find the correct entrance and seemed oblivious to the fact she had people just sitting on a bus waiting for a tour.

Finally, the owner found us and gave a nice introduction to the oldest Benedictine monastery in the Caribbean. In the reception area, we were treated to tea and cakes; we were ready for a snack. Then we went to the monastery itself and I really enjoyed that.

We were really late getting back to the ship, so we had a late lunch and a relaxing afternoon. They had a wonderful country and western music celebration so we enjoyed that with a nightcap.

Curacao tomorrow.
