1/15/19 Key West, Florida

We arrived in Key West around 8:15 am.  Weather was 65 when we awoke at 5 am and stayed pretty much around that all day, with a beeeze.  It was warm enough for shorts and a sweatshirt most of the day, but got sort of cold at times on the open trolley, but not too bad.  I think this weather is cold for Key West. The lowest temperature ever recorded there is 41. We took the Old Town Trolley around the whole island.  Some of the tour highlights included Harry Truman's Little White House, Ernest Hemingways House, Sloppy Joe's Bar, and the Southernmost point of the Continental United States.  Population of year round residents is about 20,000, with up to about 100,000 during tourist season. Gas was 2.75 most places. We went by the end of US Route 1 and mile marker 0.  There are about 1700 Keys in this area. After the tour, we walked around Key West and did some shopping. We ate a late lunch at Guy's Burgers on the ship. Despite it being cool, we decided to use the hot tubs.  The ones on deck 5 felt cool but we got in anyway. It was so cold, we got right back out. Someone mentioned the one on deck 14 was warmer, so we tried that and it was just right. There were quite a few people in it and we enjoyed some great conversation with people from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Iowa.  They pointed out Kenny Chesney's Yacht docked near our ship. I got a picture of it… We left port around 4 PM. For dinner, Jim had soup and beef lasagna. I had escargots and salmon. It was delicious! After dinner, we attended a comedy show that was pretty good. We got our thank you gift for being platinum guests.  It was a fleece blanket with the Carnival design, in a little carrying bag. Nice gift...
