Christchurch Library 'Turanga'

Christchurch Mon 19th Nov 4-12°C, Sunny/cloudy/patchy rain

Reasonably nice day, mixture of blue sky, clouds, short squally rain periods.

Walked to the historic Antigua Boatsheds established in 1872, still offering boats for hire for over 130 years. Situated next to the beautiful Christchurch Botanic Gardens, it is the home of 'Punting on the Avon’. It's enjoyable to watch the punts, rowboats, canoes and kayaks being launched into the pretty Avon River from a riverside table at the Boatshed Cafe. You can observe the various watercraft being poled, rowed or paddled(sometimes haphazardly), as you stroll the pleasant willow lined riverside path around the gardens. It really is an idyllic setting. https://boatsheds.co.nz

Spent a couple of hours in the Christchurch Art Gallery, a work of art in itself. There are those who believe galleries should be mundane so they don't compete with the artwork. I don't agree, an appealing building like this invites one inside. The individual galleries within are designed to not distract from the art. Great building.

Later in the afternoon some squally rain made investigating the new Christchurch Library 'Tūranga' appealing. Attractive wood panelling and staircases, also has lifts, it is well laid out over several floors. A highlight on the ground floor is the huge interactive touchscreen showing aspects of Christchurch and it’s history. There is a large cafe on the ground floor, espresso bar upstairs, balconies with city views. It is definitely worth a visit.
