Wellington Sat 10th Nov. 9-16°C, Mostly sunny.
Took the Wellington Cable car that runs from Lambton Quay to Kelbourne, where there's a good view of the city. The cable car museum at Kelbourne is very interesting, a theatrette shows movies of the cable cars and trams in New Zealand cities. I didn’t realise the cable car and tramway systems here were so extensive and pioneering in their engineering.
Went for a drive from downtown Wellington, hugging the coast around the Mirimar Peninsula. A small surprise passing the end of the airport runway as an Air New Zealand B777 landed. Will have to check the top of the car for tyre marks.
At Seaton the road cuts across to Breaker Bay, then continues along the seaside to Owhiro Bay. From there you can return to Wellington via Happy Valley Rd. Very pleasant scenic drive around beaches, bays, precipitous green hills and rugged rocky coastlines. A must do on a beautiful day like today.
Drove up to the top of Mt Victoria, plenty of free parking and a short climb via steps to the summit for 360 degree views of Wellington and surrounds. This is easily the best viewpoint overall, and not to be missed. Wellington is certainly in one of the prettiest locations.
Dinner at 'Eleven Fifty Four' on Cuba St., great italian, this place is always crowded, and for good reason. Freshly made on the day, the pasta here is great. Spinach & ricotta tortelloni in hazelnut butter sauce $17. Lashed out for a really good pannacotta for dessert.
