LGW to Brisbane

All the last minute jobs completed, garden and house ready for winter (as far as possible), all packed, the car arrived and we were off to the airport. Not the smoothest drive but we arrived at the airport safe and sound and in plenty of time. Just as well as we discovered an issue with Ruth’s visa. The Emirates staff sorted it and we were checked in and soon in the lounge. A large glass of champagne (well maybe several) and all seemed well with the world. It was soon time to board and off we went.

Dubai. The cabin was full and very warm which did make it difficult to sleep, despite the alcohol intake (or maybe because of it) so it was great to be able to get into the lounge in Dubai and take a shower. A quick snack and we boarded the Brisbane flight. The cabin was less than half full so we great service, enjoyed a drink or two from the bar. The cabin was a lot cooler so we did manage to sleep, and catch some movies on the 15 hour flight. Passed through Brisbane airport without a hitch and we were transferred to the nearby Novotel.

Brisbane.

We met with Tricia, whose house, cats and dogs we looked after two years ago. It was nice to finally meet face to face and catch up with her and the dogs - they seemed to remember us with great affection. It was Melbourne Cup Day and in keeping with tradition, Tricia brought out the champagne and a couple of ‘fascinators’ for her and Ruth to wear while we watched the race. Afterwards, Ruth spent the afternoon grappling with the Immigration Department website to apply for an extension to the 3 month visa she had been granted from Gatwick. A snooze, light supper then bed; up early tomorrow to fly north to Gladstone.
