Waiheke Island Nov 4th 14-17°C, Sunny/cloudy.

At the Auckland Harbour Ferry terminal, I purchased a Fuller's combination ferry and bus ticket to Waiheke Island for $65. The ticket includes the fast catamaran and hop on/hop off bus service on Waikeke Island, 40 minutes from Auckland Harbour. Rough sea but mostly stable ferry ride across, then bus to Oneroa Village for breakfast at a cafe with great views. It's a warmer, less humid climate with more sunshine hours on this beautiful Island. There are many vineyards with restaurants and cellar door tastings, olive groves, and 40km of beaches around the 133km coastline.

Hopped on the bus again, stopped at Onetangi where there is a lovely beach and cafes.

Next stop was Batch winery with 360° views of the island, on clear days you can see the Coromandel Peninsula. Then to Mudbrick vineyard, great views back to Auckland but a bit murky today.

Highly recommend spending a day on Waiheke. In November 2015, Waiheke Island was rated the fifth-best destination in the world to visit by Lonely Planet. About 9,000 people live here, but cheapest houses are around NZ$750,000. I saw some ocean view apartments for about $3.4 million. In the summer the tourist influx swells the population to around 35,000.

Sorry about picture quality, unfortunately I have camera problems so most photos will be from my phone.
