We found our way to Gare Montparnasse this morning on the #4 Metro from a new stop nearby, Chateau Rouge. Once we arrived at our final metro stop it felt liked we walked at least a mlle to the train station itself. We located our platform and boarded the 11:06am train for Chartres. Once in Chartres we headed to the Cathedral to check out our options for the day. On Fridays they remove the chairs from the labyrinth so people can walk on it. I took the opportunity to do my contemplative walk before we went to lunch; it has been awhile since I’ve walked a labyrinth and the experience was emotional for me.
For lunch we selected a restaurant next to the Cathedral that was in my Rick Steve’s France book. We had another leisurely, 2 hour meal and returned to the Cathedral to rent the audio tour. It took about 1.5 hours to get through it, learning about the architecture, stained glass windows and restoration of the Cathedral. What a beautiful place. I’m so glad we made the trip from Paris.
We arrived back to Gare Montparnasse just before 7:00pm and took the long route home because my iPhone app initially directed us in the wrong direction. Or did I do that purposefully because Diana and Maxine delayed our departure from the Arc de Triomph yesterday, causing us to walk part of the way home in the rain after I told them repeatedly it was going to rain at 7:00pm? I mean, 60% chance is 60% chance, isn’t it? You be the judge.
Once home we shared a light supper, started some packing and discussed our plans for tomorrow, our last day in Paris.l
