Yesterday we took the high speed train from Naples to Rome. It was quick and easy. What a great way to travel!
We checked into our hotel which is near The Pantheon. Sharon and Charlie arrived about half an hour later. Yippeee!!!!
After getting settled we headed out for a walk. We went in search of The Trevi Fountain but due to a glitch with our navigation system (had it on car instead of walking mode...oops), we didn’t find the fountain. So we stopped for pizza and regrouped. After lunch we found the Spanish Steps, went for a walk in the Villa Borghese Gardens and finally found our way to the Trevi Fountain. Later we had a relaxing dinner in our piazza.
This morning after breakfast we headed out for a busy day in Rome. We started with a visit to the Pantheon which was very impressive. Next we stopped at the Vittorio Emmanuel II Monument for views of the city. Then on to a tour of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and The Roman Forum. It was a busy, hot day and we were all ready for snacks and refreshments once the tour was finished.
This evening we went for a stroll in search of Piazza Navona. However, we got sidetracked and ended up near the Tiber River. So we changed plans and went for a wonderful stroll along the river. Later we finally made it to Piazza Navona which was buzzing with activity. After taking in the piazza, Charlie led us back to the area near our hotel and we stopped for a light dinner before calling it a night. All in all a great day in Rome!
