A Travel Day:
With a very short trip to drive today we delayed our departure until noon.
We treated ourselves to breakfast out this morning. I fell victim to a menu item declaring the best darned Cinnamon Bun
ever. Well the darned thing must have weighed at least a pound. It covered a single dinner plate. I picked away at it for awhile before requesting a take out box. This bun may not have been the best ever but it was the biggest I have ever seen.
We finally departed Panguitch at noon. Our route was very simple. We turned south on Hyw 89 for seventy miles to Kanab. The road conditions were mostly good. We got caught up in a stretch of road construction that delayed us for a few minutes. Traffic was light and we made good time. The scenery was very pleasant.
We arrived at the Kanab RV Corral by 1:30 P.M. Check-in was simple and we headed to our site. Our site turned out to be an odd shaped corner site. The hookups are all okay and we have camp set up for four nights. Our only issue is the lack of parking space. I was hemmed in between two larger rigs.
After we had camp set up we drove the short distance to the US Dept. of Interior, BLM office to inquire about a hiking permit to the WAVE. I have perviously submitted two applications on line but failed to win a lottery permit.
Tomorrow morning we will apply in person for one of the ten permits issued daily. We have two days to accomplish this.
If we win a permit it will be valid for just the following day. After the lottery we plan to make a day trip to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. It is a distance of approximately 80 miles. I won't mind this drive.
