Fountains in Marina Bay

The wheel and the Arts Science Museum from the boat

12 August 2018

At last a good night's sleep. It probably helped that we remembered that we had tablets from the health food shop to help us sleep on the plane. Anyway, something worked, and we slept until 8am. Will use the tablets again tonight.

A casual morning until Stefan & Leanne picked us up at 11.30am. So good to see them, the boys have grown up so much, and what great kids they are. Very friendly to us and well mannered.

Stefan chose a great place for brunch at the golf club. Sure helps to know "a local". Beautiful view looking over the golf course with the city in the background. Non stop chatting, Don catching up with Stefan while Leanne & Pam caught up on so much. Luca and Eli are very well educated and well travelled. Leanne has a teaching job at the school, so life here has been good to them.

Dragged ourselves away in time to drop Eli to a birthday party and Luca to a friend's house. Stefan filled us in on a lot of local information on the drive back to our hotel.

Leanne suggested we go to Clarke Quay during the afternoon, which provided a great afternoon for us. The pier has mega eating places of all kinds, and is part of a six kilometre stretch of eating places along both sides of the river. We managed to find a quiet place for dinner where we enjoyed sharing a shepherds pie and salad. Not very adventurous considering all the choices available!

We did a bumboat ride on the river as the sun set, so vibrant everywhere, and we cruised into the Marina Bay area where the laser lights on top of Marina Sands Hotel lit up the area as well as the colourful fountain display to music. Great suggestion Leanne, and we obviously managed to get the timing right on the boat queue.

Did our afternoon travelling on the MRT again, amazing rail network where the waiting time is usually under five minutes. Very long trains and always quite full. We are still amazed at the number of people around no matter where we go, but we never feel crowded.

Time to get some sleep, another big day awaits tomorrow!

Found a good ride at Clarke Quay for you Ian Buchanan on your next visit here - the GX5 Extreme Swing Singapore.
